All-Star Tommy La Stella is reportedly off the market. According to NBCS’ Alex Pavlovic, La Stella agreed to deal with San Francisco Giants.

The 31-year-old infielder committed to a three-year deal that will become official once he undergoes a physical.

La Stella started the shortened 2020 MLB season with the Los Angeles Angels but ended up being traded to Oakland Athletics in August. He had a solid campaign overall, ending the year with a .281 batting average, five home runs, and 25 RBIs.

Bringing in La Stella could turn out to be a good move for the Giants, as he gives them versatility at positions of need. He also complements the rest of the team’s infield, considering that he bats with a left hand and the rest of the Giants’ infielders are right-hand batters.

Another thing that should get San Francisco fans excited about Tommy La Stella is his reliability. He has been consistent at-bats throughout his career and rarely strikes out. In 228 plate appearances in 2020, La Stella struck out only 12 times.

La Stella, who previously also played with Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs, has a .274 batting average with 31 home runs and 163 RBIs. He has one All-Star appearance from 2019.

With solid performances in the shortened 2020 MLB season, lefty pitcher Martin Perez earned himself a new deal with the Boston Red Sox.

According to multiple reports, Perez agreed to a one-year contract with the Red Sox that will pay him up to $5 million in 2021. The deal also has a team option for 2022 worth $6 million.

Perez confirmed the news on Sunday on his social media.

In 2020, Perez started 12 games for the Red Sox and managed to compile a 3–5 record. He had 4.50 ERA and 46 strikeouts, while also his 4.1 walks per nine innings pitched led the AL.

By bringing back Perez, Red Sox add a reliable arm to their rotation that struggled with injuries in 2020. This, however, doesn’t exclude them from making more additions as they have been linked with moves for free agents like Garrett Richards and Jake Odorizzi.

Martin Perez played most of his MLB career with the Texas Rangers, where he made 128 starts in seven years. He also spent one year with Minnesota Twins before landing in Boston.

Perez’s career stats include a 56-61 record, 4.71 ERA, and 643 strikeouts.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan adds that the agreement contains a team option for Astros, while Baez will get a chance to up his earnings with a number of bonuses and escalators.

The deal is expected to be finalized once the 32-year-old player undergoes physical.

Astros entered the offseason with a goal to add depth to their bullpen, and signing Baez gets them closer to that goal. The franchise previously also added right-hand reliever Ryne Stanek to a one-year deal.

Pedro Baez spent his entire career in the majors with LA Dodgers, who gave him his MLB debut back in 2014. At the end of last season, he was the player with the longest active tenure as a Dodger behind ace Clayton Kershaw and All-Star Kenley Jansen.

Baez played 355 MLB games with the Dodgers, serving as a closer in 51 of them and posting a 21-15 record. He has a 3.03 ERA to go with 369 strikeouts and three saves.

The rebuilding Detroit Tigers won’t be all about young movement in 2021 after all. The team decided to add some veteran power to their roster on Tuesday, signing outfielder Robbie Grossman to a two-year deal.

Grossman joins the Tigers after playing 51 games for Oakland Athletics in 2020. He finished the shortened MLB season with a .241 batting average, eight homers, and 23 RBIs.

The team didn’t disclose the financial terms of the agreement, but multiple reports say that Grossman will receive $10 million for his services in the next two years.

According to general manager Al Avila, the Tigers identified Grossman as a free agency target early in the offseason and are pleased that they managed to get the job done.

“Robbie is a proven major league hitter and will bring consistent, competitive at-bats to our lineup,” Avila added.

Grossman himself also expressed excitement about the deal, praising the organization, the fans, and the city of Detroit.

“I’m very excited to get to work with my coaches and teammates and help bring winning baseball back to the Motor City,” said Grossman in a statement.

Robbie Grossman spent the early part of his MLB career with Houston Astros before embarking on stints with Minnesota Twins and Athletics. He has a .252 career batting average to go with 50 home runs and 254 RBIs.

Just one day after shocking the MLB by trading for Tampa Bay Rays’ five-player trade, San Diego Padres made another blockbuster deal.

According to multiple reports, the Padres are closing in on a deal with Chicago Cubs that would land them four-time All-Star pitcher Yu Darvish.

Padres will also receive Darvish’s favorite catcher Victor Caratini while sending right-hander Zach Davies and four prospects—outfielder Owen Caissie, outfielder Ismael Mena, shortstop Reggie Preciado, and shortstop Yeison Santana—to Chicago.

Darvish joins the Padres following a stellar campaign in a shortened 2020 season that saw him finish second in NL Cy Young voting and earning an All-MLB First-Team nod. He finished the year with an 8-3 record in 12 starts while posting 2.01 ERA and 93 strikeouts.

With Darvish and Snell in their rotation, Padres have one of the scariest pitching cores in the entire MLB. The duo will be joined by reliable arms in Dinelson Lamet and Chris Paddack next season, while Mike Clevinger will be added in 2022 after he recovers from Tommy John surgery.

The Cubs, who have no intention to compete in the near future, the deal makes sense because it replenishes their weak farm system. All four prospects they received have the potential to develop into starting-caliber players, with Preciado being touted as the next big star on the position.

Chicago also received badly needed salary-relief with the move, considering they were set to pay Darvish $59 million in the next three years.

Reigning World Series champions the LA Dodgers added some depth to their bullpen on Wednesday by signing veteran reliever Tommy Kahnle to a two-year contract. Reportedly, the deal is worth $4.75 million.

The move looks like one for the future, considering there is a small chance that Kahnle makes the field in 2021 as the 31-year-old pitcher underwent a Tommy John surgery in August and is expected to miss anywhere between 12 and 14 months.

Kahnle played just one inning with New York Yankees in 2020, striking out three while allowing a hit and a walk against Washington Nationals. Several days later he felt discomfort in his arm during practice and was shut down for the season.

Yankees opted to send him on a minor league assignment in October, but Kahnle rejected it and instead used his right to become a free agent.

By acquiring Tommy Kahnle, the Dodgers got themselves a reliable arm in 2022 when they might lose Kenley Jansen and/or Joe Kelly. Kahnle could also be helpful in the 2021 postseason if his rehab goes according to plan.

Kahnle made his MLB debut with Colorado Rockies in 2014, spending two seasons with the franchise before embarking on two-year stints with Chicago White Sox and Yankees. He has 285 career games in which he posted a 9-9 record, four saves, 3.82 ERA, and 344 strikeouts.

Infielder Howie Kendrick decided to end his professional baseball career after playing 15 years in the MLB. The 37-year-old player announced his retirement on Monday via social media.

Kendrick posted a photo of himself and his family holding the World Series trophy he won with the Washington Nationals on Instagram and added a lengthy caption. Among other things, he thanked everyone who had a role in his career while saying it’s time to “enter a new stage of my life.”

Kendrick was limited to just 25 games with Washington in 2020, dealing with a hamstring injury. He had two home runs and 14 RBIs while batting .275.

After the season wrapped up, Washington decided to decline the $6.5 million option for 2021 on Kendrick’s contract, making him a free agent.

Throughout his MLB career, Howie Kendrick played with LA Angels, LA Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies, and Nationals. He made one All-Star appearance and posted a .294 career batting average with 127 homers and 724 RBIs.

The highlight of Kendrick’s career was the 2019 World Series run with Washington when he emerged as an unlikely hero in National League Championship Series against St. Louis Cardinals. In four games of the series, Kendrick batted .333 and had four RBIs while earning NLCS MVP honors. He also hit a home run in Game 7 of the World Series.

Kansas City Royals announced on Tuesday that they have agreed to a two-year deal with first baseman Carlos Santana.

While Royals declined to give details on financial terms, Santana will reportedly earn $17.5 million in the next two seasons. He can increase his salary further via various bonuses.

Santana joins Royals after Cleveland Indians rejected the club option on his contract and made him a free agent. The 34-year-old veteran played 60 games in the shortened 2020 MLB season but struggled to be impactful as he batted .199 while contributing with eight home runs and 30 RBIs.

Still, Kansas City hopes that Carlos Santana can re-discover his form from some of the previous seasons when he was playing on an All-Star form. He is just one year removed from his career-best outing in 2019 when he sported a .281 batting average with 34 homers and 94 RBIs.

“One of our objectives this offseason was to add a middle-of-the-order bat, someone that would blend in well with our current group, make us a lot better,” said Royals general manager Dayton Moore of the move. “Carlos certainly does that.”

Bringing in Santana is the latest move in the Royals’ surprisingly busy offseason. They previously brought in reliever Mike Minor and outfielder Michael Taylor while also locking the majority of their arbitration-eligible players to new contracts.

Kansas City Royals reportedly agreed to a two-year deal with left-hand pitcher Mike Minor over the weekend. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the signing will become official after Minor undergoes a successful physical.

Minor split 2020 between Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics, posting 5.54 ERA with 1-6 record and 62 strikeouts in 12 games.

This will mark the return to Kansas City for Minor, as he suited up for the Royals during the 2017 MLB season. He was coming off a Tommy John surgery at the time but managed to produce a respectable campaign as a reliever, finishing the year with a 2.55 ERA and 6-6 record.

Minor turned the success with Royals into a three-year, $28 million contract with Rangers and was mostly productive during his stint with the organization. He especially had a strong outing in 2019, when he went 14-10 with 3.59 ERA and 200 strikeouts en route to his first career All-Star nod and eighth place in Cy Young voting.

Royals are now expecting Minor to step up for them again, as he will most likely be a starter and play a significant role in the rotation for the next MLB season. The team also has the likes of Brad Keller, Danny Duffy, and Brady Singer as rotational pieces, with several prospects also knocking on the door.

Tim Tebow will have another shot to play Major League Baseball. Tebow, who turned to baseball after a career as a quarterback in the NFL, is set to return to the New York Mets for the 2021 season.

The news was confirmed by Mets’ president Sandy Alderson during a recent chat with the NY Post.

“So I talked to Tim Saturday, in between Florida football and some other SEC [broadcasting] obligations. He’s anxious to come back,” – said Alderson.

According to Alderson, the organization plans to give Tebow an opportunity to make the majors roster.

“I think Tim is committed to coming back,” he added. “And I think we’re committed to giving him an opportunity to do that, and we’ll see where it goes.”

Tim Tebow has been a part of Mets since 2016 when he signed a minors contract with the organization. He spent time with several Mets affiliates, playing 287 games at the outfielder position and batting .223 with 18 home runs and 107 RBIs.

Before he ventured into baseball, Tebow professionally played football for three years with Denver Broncos and New York Jets. He has 35 appearances in NFL and career stats that include 2,422 passing yards with 17 touchdowns and 989 rushing yards with 12 scores.
