]]>We, as humans, try to give ourselves the illusion of having control. Funnily enough, we do this most during periods when we’re so clearly without it. We may worry to protect ourselves from the worst possible outcome, but unfortunately this doesn’t change the outcome. Whether the outcome is positive of negative, us worrying about it isn’t going to change it. So why not just try and relax in the mean time?
Worrying is a state of mind that may not necessarily go away even if the outcome is positive. Our state of mind will be what it is regardless of external occurrences, unless of course we work hard to change it. Thus, don’t focus on outside stimuli to determine how you feel. Rather, decide it on your own, and work on yourself to attain that goal regardless of outside circumstances.

]]>On one hand, yes, it’s incredibly realistic. The reason is that sometimes our fears have a lot to do with imposter syndrome, and fear of the unknown. So even when we think we’re not good at something, we’re actually a lot better than we realize—and thus faking it till we make it is really just forcing ourselves to do something and gain experience in it. Once we get more experience, we’re a lot more confident in our ability to complete a task.
However, on the other hand, it’s important to not get too ahead of ourselves with this idea. It’s important to also be realistic about our skills from a technical standpoint. This sometimes requires no small amount of intuition. You need to be able to know which situation is right to fake it and which situation you truly don’t have the necessary skills to move move forward.

]]>When we’re too close to something, we’re not thinking clearly. After hours, days, months, or even years of being unable to solve a particular matter, sometimes the reason is that we’re way too close to it. We’re so deeply entrenched in the problem that we’ve actually become the problem itself. Or, better put, we’ve mentally immersed ourselves into it.
But when you take a proper step back, everything changes. Taking a step back can be done in a multitude of ways, depending on the specific problem at hand. But it basically requires you to feel like you’re taking a break from it all. You need to stop thinking about it, and do whatever you can to forget about it for a considerable period of time. Once you’ve finished your break, you can then come back with a rejuvenated mind, body, and soul—and you’ll be 100 times more equipped to solve the issue.

]]>We focus on ourselves in life because that’s all we can really do. We put ourselves under a magnifying glass because we experience the world through our own two eyes. The thing is, we end up projecting our feelings onto others, which is why we assume everyone else is focusing on us as much as we do. But as much as they love us—they’re just not.
When you look upon loved ones in your life, do you give them the benefit of the doubt? Are you allowing them to live their life at a distance? Just like you see your loved ones, realize that it’s probably not so different from how they see you.
We judge ourselves harshly, and often let others off the hook for certain things—but we should be judging ourselves just as favorably. Forgiving ourselves is important, and a large component of finding happiness. Ultimately, the world doesn’t revolve around us, and that’s a good thing. We should enjoy being a part of the world, and not persecute ourselves for our imperfections.

]]>It’s one thing if a celebrity looks so flawless that they’ve inspired you to try out new looks and maybe get into a healthy routine. But the second you start starving yourself or hating yourself because you don’t look exactly like your favorite star on the silver screen, that’s when you know you’ve gone too far. Scale back and reflect on what really matters to you in life.
It’s important to remember that celebrities are just regular people who either worked really hard, got super lucky, or had a combination of both. For whatever reason, they’re now living a life in the spotlight, but such a life may not be as easy as you think it is. Even though they might seem like they have it all, they might be going through some hard times as well. So if you’re feeling a bit too jealous of stars, count your blessings and put everything into perspective.

]]>Magnesium is vital for many bodily functions, particularly in the brain. Our need for magnesium goes up during periods of stress and the vitamin is believed to fight off symptoms of depression. Start your day with a magnesium supplement and see if you notice a difference in your mood in a couple of weeks.
“Eat healthily” is one of the most over-prescribed pieces of advice when it comes to times of stress. Eating healthy is important but eating well is important too. Eating healthy shouldn’t be a chore and your food should satisfy you mentally as well as physically.
You don’t need to start your day off with a run, but keeping your body moving keeps your brain stimulated and releases endorphins. Try and squeeze in a daily yoga sun salutation or put on some music and have a boogie while you are waiting for the kettle to boil.
Singing fights stress and boosts endorphins. Sing in the shower, sing while you get ready in the morning and if you get a troublesome email, sing the stress away.
Putting it all on paper can be a great way to compartmentalize your stress. When you write your to do list, do it in terms of priority. At the end of the day, take note of your achievements, not the things you have left over.

]]>For many people, sharing one big blanket means that they end up fighting over it all night long. That’s not really an appropriate environment for a good night’s sleep, but you probably haven’t considered the most obvious alternative.
The idea of having two separate smaller blankets for sleeping on a king-sized bed with your partner might seem odd at first, but if you just give it a chance, you’ll see that you’ll both sleep so much better. Perhaps one of you turns all night while the other one lays still, or one is always hot when the other one is cold… Whatever your particular case is, two blankets instead of one will help you sleep better and keep you happy and in love. It’s worth a shot!

If you’re constantly on your phone or computer, go outside. Call a friend and go for a walk. Cook something. Do anything you don’t usually do on a daily basis and your creative juices will start flowing again.

]]>The first step to creating a budget is figuring out how much you make and how much you spend. For 2-4 weeks right down every time you make and spend money and then add everything up at the end of that time period. This will show you where you spend your money and how much money you’re spending and making.
Once you have these numbers, see how much you’re saving after you spend. If there’s nothing to be saved or you’re in the red, then you obviously should think about cutting back on your spending. But if you’re making a profit and are able to save you can then think about if you want to be saving more or if you’re comfortable where you’re at.
A good thing to try is to cut back on one item from your budget for a week or two and see how that changes your lifestyle.
