Ramen can be a great snack or a nice budget meal for rainy days. But what if you only have the noodles or you want the most popular flavor, chicken, but all you have is prawn? Luckily, it’s super easy to make ramen broth from scratch! Here’s how to make your own broth at home.

The first three ingredients you’ll need are chicken stock (powder is just fine), fresh garlic, and soy sauce. Chicken stock will be your base, so start by boiling some in a pot. Use a heaping tablespoon of powder if that’s what you’re using. Don’t use too much or it will be too salty.

Crush 3 or more cloves of garlic and add to the pot. If you don’t have fresh, use garlic powder. If you like some extra zing, fresh ginger or ginger powder are a delicious addition to make a more authentic broth. This is also very soothing if you aren’t feeling well.

Finally, add your soy sauce. Start with a teaspoon and add more to taste. This is what will provide you with the umami flavor that defines ramen. If you like, try adding a bit of sesame oil and green onions on top.

Now you can add your noodles, and try dropping in a raw egg to cook for some protein. Enjoy!

Long gone are the days of tearing open an instant noodle package and scattering the noodles in a pot. Throwing in a small packet of dried vegetables and seasonings is outdated and a thing of the past.

Nowadays, there are so many ways to upgrade your regular pack of instant noodles. You can add some soy sauce, sesame oil, and even gochujang to give it a spicy and savory kick. If you’re on a budget and don’t mind buying a couple more ingredients to make your instant noodles amazing – try these simple hacks to turn your plain old noodles into a world-class dish.

Add a Tamago Egg

The pinnacle of a perfect instant noodle dish is to add a half-cooked boiled egg called Tamago. This is the icing on top of the cake because it makes it look more presentable and it also serves up some extra protein in your dish. Win-win.

Add Fresh Vegetables

Grind some peanuts in a mortar and pestle and sprinkle it on your instant noodles for a nutty taste. The grit adds a little more texture to the raw cucumbers and carrots. Fresh veggies will make your dish taste refreshing and cool – perfect for hot summer days.

A Plate of Cultures

Garam masala and coriander in ramen, why not? Fusing Indian spices with Asian spices can make any dish taste tasty when placed in the right proportions. A little bit of garam masala and even cloves should do the trick. Always split it 50/50 so half of it is part Indian, without losing the Asian flavors.
