Check Out Social Media

Social media is much more accessible than visiting each gym, so start by checking out the posts and people’s comments on them. Gyms that say they’re body positive should have images that show people of all ages and body sizes.

Sit in on Classes

Going to a class and listening to the teacher is always a good way to get a feel for the messages they are trying to promote. If a teacher talks about getting the summer bikini body or losing fat, maybe it’s not the right class for you.

Goal Setting

If you’re looking for a personal trainer, be sure you ask about a fitness plan and goals. Your goals shouldn’t revolve around losing weight, they should be about lifestyle changes like being able to keep up with your children.

Look For Other Signs of Inclusion

Body positive gyms aren’t just about size, they’re about working around limitations like injuries or arthritis. Look for places that have people of various ages and capabilities.

One of the hardest things for fitness lovers during the lockdown has been not being able to workout at the gym. While home workouts are a good alternative, you can’t beat the amount of equipment and weights available at the gym.

Across the country, gyms are just starting to open up and they’ll look a lot different than they did before the coronavirus. Gyms are taking precautions to limit the spread of the virus by decreasing class sizes, changing the setup of machines, spacing out lockers and showers, and cleaning the equipment. In addition to the steps being taken by the gym, here’s what you can do to stay safe when returning back to the gym.

Wear a Face Mask

Besides washing your hands, face masks are the best way to protect yourself from the coronavirus. Wear one when you check-in and any place that’s a bit more lax with social distancing restrictions.

Bring a Towel and Mat

We suggest bringing your own towel and mat instead of using the ones provided at the gym as you can ensure that it’s clean.

Wear Comfortable Clothing

While working out, it’s always best to wear clothes you are comfortable and this is especially important now as you want to avoid touching your clothes to prevent germs from spreading.

Put Your Phone Away

You’re better off not bringing your phone to the gym or storing it in your locker during your workout as you phone picks up tons of germs.

Limit Equipment Use

Gym workouts are usually better than home workouts because there are a variety of machines to use, but try and limit the amount use exercise on and no matter what, be sure to clean them before and after each use.

Check Social Media

Prior to going back to the gym, check the gym’s social media page to see if they’re taking precautions to ensure safety and social distancing. Photos that have huge group classes or people working out close to each other are indications that you shouldn’t go back just yet.

We have to be honest with you, we’ve never thought of using an airport gym before. In fact, we didn’t even know they existed until now. With the amount of time we spend waiting for our flights to board at the airport, they seem like a good use for the time. Here are all the details about the hidden gem.

Where are They?

While you’ll have trouble finding airport gyms in the United States, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) has a ROAM Fitness. It’s a full-service gym with everything from treadmills and bicycles to dumbells and weight benches. Don’t worry, ROAM Fitness centers will be available in San Fransico International Airpot (SFO) shortly.

ROAM Fitness is the only gym available in the United States, but other airports offer other fitness amenities such as yoga and airport hotels offer days passes to their gyms.

Fitting it Into Your Schedule

When your about to spend tons of hours sitting on an airplane, finding any time for exercise is beneficial. You can prevent aches and pains that you experience from traveling for long periods of time by exercising. An added benefit of working out before a flight is you’ll tire yourself out, which will lead to better sleep on the plane.

Try doing a HIIT (high-intensity interval training) workout because you’ll get the most out of a workout when you have a limited amount of time. If you can’t see yourself exercising before your flight, just try and stay active and walk around the airport.
