]]>That didn’t stop owners of Libreria Acqua Alta from opening a bookstore in this city and coming up with creative ways to protect it from rising waters.
All of the books on this whimsical property are piled into waterproof bins, bathtubs, canoes, and a full-size gondola. By storing them this way, owner Luigi Frizzo came up with a perfect way to protect his impressive collection – and managed to create one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world at the same time.
Libreria Acqua Alta, aka the “bookstore of high water”, is located in close proximity to St. Mark’s Square. It’s a little bit difficult to find, but once you’re there – you’ll never want to leave.
It’s one of the most picturesque places you’ll ever walk into, and we won’t judge you if you spend hours sitting by the “fire escape” which opens directly onto a canal at the back of the shop.

There you will find new, old, and unique books all at amazing prices. But whether you buy something or not, you have to go just to see how many books can fit into one store.

This English bookstore in Paris, France, is famous because of all the incredible writers that have visited and even lived in the store. Those include Hemmingway, Fitzgerald, Kerouac, and more. The store was also the first shop to publish James Joyce’s complete Ulysses.
Located in Maastricht, The Netherlands, this shop is an absolute must-see if you’re in the country. Housed in a 13th-century gothic church, this fairly new bookstore has so much character you won’t believe.
