]]>Ransom Canyon is adapted from Jodi Thomas’s beloved book series and brings to life the intersecting stories of three ranching families in Texas Hill Country. The official synopsis reads:
“Created, written, and executive produced by April Blair (Wednesday, All American), Ransom Canyon is a romance-fueled family drama and contemporary Western saga that charts the intersecting lives of three ranching families, all set against the rugged expanse of Texas Hill Country.”
The narrative centers on Staten Kirkland (Duhamel), the stoic owner of the expansive Double K Ranch, who is grappling with personal loss while striving to protect his land from external threats. Quinn O’Grady (Kelly), a former concert pianist returning from New York City, seeks a fresh start and becomes entwined in the community’s struggles and passions.
The series boasts a talented ensemble cast, including James Brolin as Cap Fuller, Lizzy Greene as Lauren Brigman, and Eoin Macken as Davis Collins. Created and written by April Blair, known for her work on Sweet Magnolias, the show is set to deliver a rich tapestry of drama and romance. Blair also serves as an executive producer alongside Dan Angel.
Ransom Canyon has drawn comparisons to popular series like Yellowstone and Virgin River. Netflix’s Head of Drama, Jinny Howe, described the show as “a multi-generational family show set on a ranch,” combining elements of both series to create a unique viewing experience.
Filming took place across various locations in New Mexico, including Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Las Vegas, from February to June 2024. The picturesque landscapes are expected to enhance the show’s authentic portrayal of Texas ranch life.
With its compelling storyline, strong cast, and high production values, “Ransom Canyon” is poised to captivate audiences seeking a fresh take on the Western genre. Mark your calendars for April 17, 2025, and prepare to be transported to the heart of Texas Hill Country.

From Poker Face to Reservation Dogs, the Emmys snubbed many acclaimed shows when picking the outstanding comedy series nominations, but it was pretty satisfying to see Jury Duty make the cut.
The Irish black comedy Bad Sisters was a true delight when it premiered last summer. We expected it to do pretty well at the Emmys, but it failed to score the outstanding drama series nod.
This year’s field for the outstanding limited or anthology series was a true head-scratcher, and seeing Disney’s Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi get a nod was the biggest shocker of them all.
Even though House of the Dragon scored a nomination for outstanding drama series, no member of its remarkable cast was recognized—not even Paddy Considine or Emma D’Arcy.
