Life is stressful, and even if it weren’t before, we believe this year got to most of you. Work, relationships, home life, and now the pandemic is affecting your life whether you notice it or not, but some level of stress is to be expected in adulthood. It’s not good when you get too much stress, and here are three signs that you may be stressed out.

You’re Constantly Feeling Irritable

If you get irritated really easily or you get particularly impatient, that’s likely a sign that you need to slow down. It’s not unusual for people who are under a lot of stress to lose it over something trivial like a broken glass. so take that as a sign that you need a break.

You Can’t Make Decisions

Stress makes you feel constantly tired and chronically feeling like that may make you less confident in making decisions. It may be something small like what to wear in the morning or something much bigger, but take note of this when it happens.

Skin Picking

Skin picking, as well as biting your nails and similar behaviors are a way to do something with your hands while your mind works on something that stresses you out. Add feeling restless and unable to focus and it becomes clear that you need to give yourself a break.

We’ve all been there. There are days, weeks or even months where you feel like your personal problems are too big to handle. If you are just having a rough day, we know exactly how to make you feel better.

Listen to your Favorite Songs

Music inspires the soul. Your brain releases a feel-good hormone every time you enjoy music. The result is that you feel better instantly. Listening to your favorite songs in college or high schools can improve your mood even more. Old school music helps you recollect your old memories, which betters your mood.

Take out your Old Photos

Another way to invoke nostalgia and forget your stress is to look at your old photos. The goal is to recapture your memories especially during great times in your life. You can also read old postcards from friends and you will suddenly experience an improvement in your mood.

Take a Walk

If you are down because of an argument with a friend or a family member, take a walk. Go with your dog if you have one. Strolling clears your mind as you move away from people or things that made you mad. Walking your dog also has a therapeutic feeling.

Take a Nap or Write Something

If you have the time, lie on your bed and take a nap. Sleeping even for an hour helps you shed off anger and stress. If you can’t find sleep, take out your notebook and start writing. Write anything for 15 or more minutes. Your mood will improve and you can continue with your day’s plans feeling better.

We all get stressed, period. But did you know that long-term, chronic stress can actually have similar effects on our bodies as a junk food diet?

And this have a bigger effect on women. It’s no secret that living on high-fat burgers and fries is super bad for us – particularly our stomachs.

The micro bacteria in your stomach will change as a response to such unhealthy amounts of fat. This typically results in a much higher risk of developing conditions like heart disease and diabetes.

So what’s stress got to do with it?

Recent biological research has shown that, when exposed to stress over a long period of time, there were shocking gender differences. Females were shown to suffer unhealthy micro bacterial changes in their stomachs as a result of this stress – resembling the exact same changes that occur when eating an extremely high-fat diet.

And the weirdest part? Males didn’t!

The Study

This particular example of pioneering research was conducted on a large sample of mice, both males and females being exposed to the exact same levels of stressful stimuli over a period of weeks.

But, whilst this research didn’t involve humans for strong ethical reasons, this certainly doesn’t mean the results can’t be applied to us too.

It’s not unusual for long-term stress to cause stomach upset, but this research strongly suggests we need to take these extreme results into account when trying to cope with certain stresses – especially women.

What’s the Solution?

One of the best methods of reducing harmful, stress-induced stomach effects is to look for natural remedies proven to reduce the stresses themselves. Both anxiety and depression are two of the most common stresses women face, with exercise being one of the most natural and effective ways to help.

So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed with stress and don’t know what to do, simply going for a run will not only contribute to alleviating anxiety symptoms the natural way, but may also keep your stomach healthy too!
