]]>Oat milk is one of the most sustainable milk options out there. Oats are an extremely low-impact crop, requiring far fewer resources than almonds or cashews. In fact, oat crops actually enrich soil health! They can also be grown in cooler climates in the U.S. and Canada, meaning that unlike soy or coconuts, oat production does not contribute to deforestation in the Global South.
Oat milk is the barista’s best friend. Most oat milk brands have impressive micro-foaming capabilities, ideal for your morning latte. In fact, lots of folks prefer the texture and taste of oat milk over other plant milk. Oat milk has a fresh and mild flavor that is not overpowering, and a balanced creamy texture, just like dairy milk.
As well as making for a great flat white, oat milk is ideal for sweet or savory cooking and baking, as well as shakes and smoothies. It’s also perfect for cereal, oatmeal, or for whipping up a batch of plant-based pancakes. You can even enjoy a refreshing glass of oat milk straight out of the carton (just don’t forget the cookies)!

]]>First things first, you’ve got to soak the oats. Place them in some water for 15 minutes so they can soften. Don’t leave them any longer, though, as you’ll end up with a slimy texture and nobody has time for that.
Once your grains have plumped up, give them a rinse and drain the liquid using a strainer. The goal is to remove the excess starch, so keep rinsing until the water is clear.
Place the oats in a blender with 4 cups of water, some maple syrup, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Blend it all up until it is smooth and have a taste to check whether it’s sweet enough.
Using your strainer again, extract as much liquid as you can from the mixture. Once you’ve gotten every drop, pour the milk into a resealable jar and allow it to chill in the fridge.

]]>In some parts of the U.S., like New York City and California, oat milk has been a huge trend in the past few years. Big demand raised the prices but people still want to buy oat milk and the rest of the world quickly starts catching up.
Wondering what’s the craze about. Why do people love it so much?
One of the biggest factors is the taste. Oat milk is creamy and slightly sweet, which makes it a great addition for coffee, baked goods, and other foods. Unlike other plant-based types of milk, oat milk enhances the creaminess of lattes and cappuccinos, which is why it’s also loved by people who still enjoy dairy milk.
Oat milk is great from a nutrition perspective, too. It’s free of nuts, soy, and gluten, which makes it perfect for people with allergies. You can easily find soy milk with no added sugar if that’s important to you.
What’s your favorite plant-based milk? Have you tried oat milk yet?
