Recent biological research has shown that, when exposed to stress over a long period of time, there were shocking gender differences. Females were shown to suffer unhealthy micro bacterial changes in their stomachs as a result of this stress – resembling the exact same changes that occur when eating an extremely high-fat diet.
And the weirdest part? Males didn’t!
This particular example of pioneering research was conducted on a large sample of mice, both males and females being exposed to the exact same levels of stressful stimuli over a period of weeks.
But, whilst this research didn’t involve humans for strong ethical reasons, this certainly doesn’t mean the results can’t be applied to us too.
It’s not unusual for long-term stress to cause stomach upset, but this research strongly suggests we need to take these extreme results into account when trying to cope with certain stresses – especially women.
One of the best methods of reducing harmful, stress-induced stomach effects is to look for natural remedies proven to reduce the stresses themselves. Both anxiety and depression are two of the most common stresses women face, with exercise being one of the most natural and effective ways to help.
