]]>Maintaining eye contact during a video call can be tricky. Most of us tend to stare at our own faces but that can send the wrong message to the person on the other side. Practice eye contact with the camera instead; it may feel silly at first, but don’t think about it too much and focus on what you want to say.
Video calls sometimes lag for a few seconds, which is enough to create awkward moments if your interviewer tries to interrupt you but you keep talking. Speak clearly and not too fast and allow for pauses after you finish a thought.
Just because your job interview is being held online doesn’t mean you shouldn’t put some effort into your appearance. You actually have an advantage here since you can control the first impression you make on the interviewer more than in real-life situations. They won’t be able to see many of the subconscious cues, but they will see how you look.

]]>It’s hard to do your best when you’re not comfortable. Make sure you incorporate elements of your personal style in your outfit, as you don’t want to look cookie-cutter. Also, keep in the mind the fit of your clothes because you don’t want to wear something too short or ill-fitting, which will make you look sloppy. Adjusting your outfit during the interview is distracting for the employer.
Your Chanel bag is perfect for a night out, but for job interviews, leave it at home. Designer bags can come off as show-offy and that’s not the impression you want to be leaving. Choose a bag in a neutral shade that fits your resume – that way you won’t forget it!
Certain shoes work so well for interviews and office wear. You can’t go wrong with a loafer or mule. They’re both comfortable options and you don’t have to worry about face-planting in front of the whole office.
Accessories complete an outfit and in general, we’re all about throwing on as many as possible. For job interviews, keep it classic and minimal with your everyday necklace or rings. Throwing on too much jewelry is tacky and distracting.

]]>Fortunately, long-time editor of Vogue, Anna Wintour, recently revealed what to where to a job interview.
“It’s so interesting to me how people dress when they come in for interviews,” Wintour said her video series called, Go Ask Anna.
“Sometimes you feel they’re wearing clothes that they just bought that morning, or maybe the night before, and not something that in any way suits their personality and who they are. I think what everyone should remember, whether they’re interviewing at Vogueor indeed anywhere, that we’re not hiring your wardrobe. Your wardrobe is not going to be doing the job for you — it’s who you are.”
Wintour added that she once hired a guy who came to an interview wearing a dress and a handbag, just because he didn’t pretend to be someone he wasn’t.
Next time you go to an interview, wear something you love and feel comfortable in.
