Coffee shops have simple syrups and flavored syrups which make the drinks taste amazing. You can purchase vanilla, caramel, or hazelnut syrups or you can make them at home. All you need to do is heat up 1/4 cup of water and 1/4 cup of granulated sugar and cook it until the sugar has dissolved and the liquid is thickened. For more flavor, steep whole vanilla beans or cinnamon into the warm syrup.
