Look around you—is there more clutter than you want in your home? We all want an organized space that looks like those pretty magazine pictures, but we often believe it requires a lot of work. Turns out, you just need to adopt these simple habits and your home will look flawless at any time!

Discard Unwanted Mail at the Mailbox

Don’t even give the chance to all those promotional papers and catalogs to enter your home—quickly go through your mail while outside and only bring in the important stuff.

Everything Needs a Place

If you assign a place for every item you own, cleanup will be much easier and you’ll always know where to look when something is missing.

Don’t Shop Without Planning

If you don’t bring in unnecessary stuff in the first place, there’s gonna be a lot less to declutter. Save your money and valuable space.

Get Real with Your Clothes

Don’t keep stuff that you’re not wearing, no matter the reason for it. If you bought something and never got to use it, consider selling or donating it. Don’t hold on to things just because they cost money – it’s gone anyway and the stuff is crowding your home.

Lagom is the Swedish art of living a balanced, sustainable, but also enjoyable life. It has become pretty popular in recent years and here’s how you can bring lagom into your home in just a few simple steps.

Declutter

The first step towards bringing balance into your life and home is decluttering. Getting rid of all those unnecessary items in your home will help put focus on important objects, create harmony in your home and make it more enjoyable.

Add Greenery

Adding some greenery and bringing nature into indoor spaces is the best way to create a relaxing atmosphere and to decorate your home.

Use Natural Light

Natural light is extremely important in Scandinavian decor so try to let in as much natural light into your home as possible. There are plenty of ways to do this such as using sheer curtains or getting rid of them altogether, using mirrors, neutral colors, natural materials, cleaning windows regularly, and more.

Neutral Color

Neutral and light colors such as white, beige, or gray are the basics of Scandinavian home decor and they’re perfect for creating a calm and relaxing atmosphere.

Watching the latest Netflix shows can be a great way to pass the time and relax after a long day. One of the recent things that came out is Organized with the Home Edit and we absolutely love it! There are plenty of useful things you can learn from Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin and implement them in your own home, and these are our favorites.

Uniform Hangers

We all gather all kinds of hangers over time and it can seem unnecessary to just toss them and replace them with matching ones, but the show clearly shows us how important this can be. Not only your whole wardrobe will look more uniform, but it can also create more space if you choose hangers that aren’t bulky.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CDxWw_sBzXX/

Donut Scarves

Do you have scarves that you never know how to fold so you can always see them? Shearer and Teplin have a simple and cute solution: fold them into little “donuts”. Simply take one end of the scarf, wrap it around your hand several times, then pull through to get a bun that holds tightly! You can store them in a transparent box or in a drawer.

Using Leftover Wallpaper

If you’ve decorated your walls with wallpaper but have some material leftover, you can use it on storage containers and they will magically match your room and look neat!

Decluttering can be a job that never ends. It mostly depends on how much stuff you bring into your home as you’re simultaneously decluttering. In order to prevent having to declutter over and over again, it’s important to prevent the problem from forming. Here are some of the things you can do.

Magazines

Cancel magazine subscriptions if you’re still receiving them. This is also applicable to catalogs that you don’t even get to browse before tossing them to some corner of your living room.

Find Inspiration

Watch decluttering shows like Tidying Up With Marie Kondo that will get you excited about living with less stuff.

No Paper

Avoid printing documents that you can store digitally instead. It’s crazy how fast papers accumulate!

Shopping List

Don’t go shopping without a list. Every single thing you bring to your home requires some space and having free space it’s often worth more than having that item sit around without a purpose.

One In One Out

Make some shopping rules for yourself and stick to them. You can use the ‘one in one out’ rule to keep the number of things you have under control. Learn how to say no to free stuff that you don’t need, but would take just because they’re free.

Reading and collecting books are amazing hobbies, but once you reach a critical amount of books, the matter of organizing them becomes important. There are many great ways to organize your books, and none of them is the right one. You can choose whichever fits your needs better and focus on the looks or the functionality of your bookshelves.

Youtuber HappyReading recently shared a video in which she talks about 10 different ways to organize bookshelves. “Today I’m giving you different ways to arrange your bookshelves, and general tips on bookshelf organization!” she wrote. “I do reorganize my bookshelves to a rainbow bookshelf, a black and white bookshelf, and a secret bookshelf!”

She starts by organizing her collection by color, like a rainbow and in black and white. With the black and white version, the books with colorful covers get turned around so their backs aren’t visible. Next, she suggests organizing books alphabetically, keeping the series together, organizing by read and unread, and more. Watch how she does it below.

Keeping things neat and organized around the house is challenging, especially now that we’re spending the majority of our time at home. To declutter your living space, it’s all about making small choices, and here are five ways to make your home look more organized.

Ditch Open Space

Instead of having open spaces like open shelving and open television units, store your basic, non-personal items in boxes. That way you won’t have to look at items like tape and light bulbs on a daily basis.

Group Things in Defined Spaces

We all have more random junk than we know what do with, so store them on tabletop trays so their placement looks intentional. You can place your keys, jewelry, candles, and makeup on trays that will be displayed around your house.

Have Lots of Light

Light helps create the illusion of bigger spaces and will make even the smallest areas look bigger. It seems counterproductive to add more light to a room that’s cluttered, but you’ll be surprised at how good lighting can open the room up.

Store Away Wires and Plugs

Exposed wires and plugs make any room look messy. When possible try and store wires behind sofas or television units or under rugs.

Get Rid of Items

Probably the easiest way to reduce clutter is to get rid of items that you don’t use and keeping items that are useful.

Staying home during the coronavirus outbreak is a reality for many of us these days, but there are things you can do to make the time pass faster. If you’re not working from home, you probably have plenty of free time right now and one of the best ways to use it is to organize your home. Here are three decluttering projects you never had time for that you can do now.

12-12-12 Challenge

The premise is simple: you find 12 items to throw away, 12 to donate, and 12 to put where they belong. Repeat daily or whenever you want and your home will be so much cleaner and better organized in a matter of days.

Project 333

If you haven’t got around to trying a capsule wardrobe, now is a perfect time. Plan your wardrobe for the next three months using only 33 items. The items include clothes, shoes, accessories, and jewelry, but you don’t have to count underwear, sleepwear, or workout clothes.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B9443w-hEh2/

Set a Timer

If cleaning and organizing are not among your favorite activities, take a break from whatever you’re doing and set a timer for 10 minutes, 30 minutes, or as much time as you want. Then simply try to do as many things as possible before the timer runs out!

Set a Timer

If cleaning and organizing are not among your favorite activities, take a break from whatever you’re doing and set a timer for 10 minutes, 30 minutes, or as much time as you want. Then simply try to do as many things as possible before the timer runs out!
