Dying your hair in unnatural, semi-permanent colors can be a lot of fun, especially because you can so easily switch them out without damaging your hair, as these dyes are generally vegetable-based. But if you’ve tried out a fantasy color and are ready to move onùyet the color just won’t seem to fade on its own—here are some ways you can encourage it to disappear faster.

Use Dandruff Shampoo

One of the things that strip color fastest out of colored hair is using harsh shampoos laden with chemicals, which is why so many dye fans like to use natural shampoos. But if you’re actually looking to get your color to fade, using a harsh shampoo like a dandruff shampoo (with hot water!) will definitely speed up the process.

Go to the Beach

Two more enemies of colored hair? Sun and sea. So if you want to get your color to go away, why not go enjoy a day at the beach? You’ll come back with noticeably lighter hair.

Use a Color Remover

If all else fails, there are products you can use that are actually made specifically to remove hair color. And if you don’t want to try any of those, you can put one together yourself using ingredients like baking soda and dish soap.
