Out of all the big trends surrounding the world today, one of the biggest is home DIY projects. Gone are the days when everyone relied exclusively on professional contractors to remodel their houses. Sure, people still do that, but there are many who’d rather turn the other cheek. Whether you’re trying to save money, or whether you’re just looking for a fun new project, starting a DIY project has many benefits. But how easy is it to really do?

You’ll Need to Take it Seriously

We’ll just come out and say that your DIY project won’t be a cakewalk. You’re going to need to take this seriously and it’ll require all of your energy and focus. Just because DIY projects are trendy doesn’t make them “cookie-cutter” activities. They’ll require dedication and precision, so make sure you know what you’re in for.

Make It a Passion

We hope we didn’t scare you too much because DIY projects can truly be a blast if you’ve got enough passion for the thing. Sure, it’ll require a lot of hard work, but “hard work” can be enjoyable when you love doing something enough. Focus on loving the process, and you’ll find yourself loving every step of the way.

Do you remember making paper snowflakes in elementary school? While they are fun to make, they don’t hold up and these snowflake crafts are an adult version of the ones you made as kids. You can turn your house into a winter wonderland with these DIY snowflake decorations and the best part is that most of the materials you’ll need can be found in your home.

Paper Straw Snowflakes

Use the paper straws you have in your kitchen drawer for this fun craft that uses two materials—straws and cotton balls. Make ones in different sizes and hang them throughout your home.

Marshmallow Snowflakes

Why not take your hot chocolate to the next level by adding marshmallow snowflakes? These edible snowflakes made with marshmallows and toothpicks are perfect for dipping into hot cocoa.

Wood Snowflakes

With a stencil, cut snowflakes onto wood and add a ribbon for these festive decorations. Hang them on your wall or attach them to your front door to spread winter cheer.

Snowflake Pillow

Upgrade your pillows for the season by adding pearls, pom-poms, or silver ribbon in the shape of snowflakes.

Snowflake Clothespin Ornaments

Put those clothespins you have in your laundry room to good use by making snowflake ornaments. You can keep them natural or add some sparkle to jazz the ornaments up.

With time on our hands and no place to go, now is the time to adopt a new hobby. Why not immerse yourself in the delightfully creative world of craft? Suitable for both children and adults, crafting is a great way to fill your time and space.

Master crafter Orawee Choedamphai will inspire you to get messy. The owner of online craft shop Squish-n-Chips, her Instagram page is filled to the brim with products designed to get you inspired. From painted paper botanicals to miniature props, and anything in between, Squish-n-Chips is dedicated to small acts of pleasure.

“I’ve been making things since I was a child because my mom was always encouraging us,” shared Choedamphai in an interview with the Etsy blog. “Even if she was just baking, she might give us a little bit of dough so we could make our own version of bread.”

Based in Bangkok, Thailand, she launched her business in July 2012, while living in Oxford, UK, and had worked from her bedroom and garden shed. “Now, I can’t not be making things, so of course,” she says, “I have lots of supplies in my studio, and after a while, I started selling them along with my own designs.”

Tie-dye is having a major fashion moment right now. All you have to do is open your Instagram to see all the tie-dye lounge sets and crop tops. We know you have tons of time on your hands, so why not create your own one-of-a-kind tie-dye at home? Here’s how to transform ordinary white clothes into trendy tie-dye pieces.

To get the best results, use a plain white shirt that’s pre-washed and 100 percent cotton. You’ll need dye powder, rubber bands, rubber gloves, plastic bags, and a plastic table cover. You can purchase a tie-dye kit that will have all of these materials as well as instructions to make things easier. Here’s your step-by-step guide.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B-QF9M1l-Kn/
  1. Wet your shirt in hot water and wring out the excess water.
  2. Lay your shirt flat on a table covered with plastic cover.
  3. Tightly tie your shirt with rubber bands in the desired pattern you want (see below).
  4. Put your gloves on and mix your dye with water.
  5. Add the dye to your shirt.
  6. Put your shirt in a plastic bag and let it sit for six to eight hours.
  7. Remove the rubber bands and rinse your shirt in cold water to remove the excess dye.
  8. Wash your shirt on its own on the cold setting and let it hang dry.

Patterns

Spirals: Pinch the shirt where you want the spiral to form. Twist the rest of the shirt around that point and slowly, working outwards, add rubber bands.

Stripes: Bunch your shirt together horizontally or vertically and use rubber bands to space out where the stripes will be. The closer you space the rubber bands, the tighter the stripes will be.

Bullseye: Grab the middle of your shirt and use it as a bullseye’s center. Apply the rubber bands outward. More space between rubber bands means more space between each bullseye.

Patterns
