Dallas Cowboys’ bad luck with injuries continued this week. According to multiple reports, Cowboys’ starting corner Trevon Diggs suffered a foot fracture in Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh Steelers and is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Cowboys initially believed that Diggs’ injury isn’t severe considering that he seemed ready to return to the contest. However, after a series of tests on Monday, the medical staff found a fractured bone in the 23-year-old player’s foot that will require four to six weeks to heal.

This will most likely rule Diggs for the remainder of the 2020 season, although the injury shouldn’t have major consequences.

Trevon Diggs, selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, was one of the bright spots for Dallas’ struggling defense this season. Diggs had two interceptions and 1.0 sacks throughout the first eight games while adding 10 passes defended and 48 tackles.

Cowboys will most likely have to turn to 2019’s undrafted cornerback Saivion Smith to fill Diggs’ shoes. Smith played in four games this season, but failed to record a tackle.

In the wake of injuries that depleted their QB room, Dallas Cowboys decided to bring back a familiar face. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the team is expected to sign signal-caller Cooper Rush to their practice squad.

Rush, who has been without a team since being released by NY Giants in September, needs to complete his physical and go through COVID-19 protocol before the move can be official. He is expected to complete the process by the end of the week.

Cowboys have experienced a lot of bad luck with their quarterbacks in 2020. They first lost starter Dak Prescott, who was having a historic season, to a season-ending ankle injury. His backup Andy Dalton lasted two games before suffering a concussion in Week 7 that might keep him on the sidelines for several games.

Dallas was left with just rookie Ben DiNucci as a legitimate option under center, so they went out and got Rush as insurance.

Cooper Rush first signed with Dallas Cowboys back in 2017, joining as an undrafted free agent out of Central Michigan. He spent three years in Dallas, making two appearances in which he completed one pass for three yards and rushed twice for 13 additional yards.
