She was joined by NBC’s TODAY show presenters Craig Melvin, Al Roker, Savannah Guthrie, and Hoda Kotb. Performances included musical acts by Coco Jones, Little Big Town, and Jennifer Hudson. Hudson serenaded the crowd with “Winter Wonderland”, shimmering in a sequin ensemble and silver-toned slingback pumps.
Before lighting the tree, Kelly Clarkson led the famous countdown that precedes the celebration. The anticipation built as the public joined in, and after a drumroll and the pressing of a button with the help of New York City Mayor Eric Adams, the tree was illuminated. The moment was met with cheers from the gathered crowds.
The tree itself is a Norway spruce from West Stockbridge, Massachusetts, marking the first time in 65 years that the tree has come from this location. Donated by the Albert family, the 11-ton tree measures 74 feet tall and 43 feet wide. It was selected in 2020 by Erik Pauze, the head gardener of Rockefeller Center, who has been responsible for choosing the tree for nearly 30 years. Pauze discovered the tree when he happened to drive by the Albert family’s home and was captivated by its perfect shape and size.
In an interview, Pauze said, “What I look for is a tree you would want in your living room but on a grander scale. It’s got that nice, perfect shape all around,” as People magazine reporter. He added, “And most of all, it’s gotta look good for those kids who turn the corner at 30 Rock; it needs to instantly put a huge smile on their faces. It needs to evoke that feeling of happiness.”
The tree is topped with a 900-pound golden star designed by architect Daniel Libeskind, adorned with nearly three million Swarovski crystals that reflect the lights, adding to the tree’s splendor. The star has 70 points and is one of the most prominent elements of the decoration.
Despite an earlier shooting near the area, Chief of Department Jeffrey B. Maddrey stated, “This is a terrible event, but people are going to go on and enjoy the tree lighting tonight,” highlighting the resilience of attendees. ABC News reported that no security incidents were reported during the event, and the increased police presence ensured the safety of all participants.

After the holiday season, the tree will be milled into lumber and donated to Habitat for Humanity, which uses the wood to build homes for families in need and victims of natural disasters.

]]>The post How to Safely Transport Your Christmas Tree: Tips for Car and Bicycle appeared first on My Daily Magazine - Art, Design, DIY, Fashion and Beauty !.
]]>Transporting a Christmas tree requires preparation and adherence to the Highway Code to ensure safety on the roads, according to Liverpool Echo. Under the UK’s Highway Code Rule 98, all loads must be securely fastened to prevent hazards for other road users.
“Transporting a Christmas tree might seem straightforward, but it’s important to consider how your insurance policy applies. If an improperly secured tree causes an accident or damages another vehicle, you could be held liable and insurers may deny claims if negligence is involved,” stated Charlotte Adams from ALA Insurance, as reported by Liverpool Echo.
A small Christmas tree may fit securely in the trunk, laid crosswise to the direction of travel. For larger trees, the rear seats usually need to be folded down, and the operation should be carried out with a car suitable for the size and characteristics of the tree. The trunk of the Christmas tree should be flush against the seatback in the direction of travel, ideally against the seatback of the unoccupied front passenger seat, and it should rest directly against the driver’s seat or the passenger’s seat.
To avoid dirt and scratches in the car’s interior, place a blanket underneath the Christmas tree and wrap the trunk in a cloth, as it helps protect the vehicle from contamination by resin and needles. Tree resin is very difficult to clean.
The tree should be secured tightly with a tension strap, as simple rubber bands or rubber expanders are insufficient for securing the heavy tree adequately. Many cars have attachment points like hooks and eyes in the trunk for securing cargo, as well as tie-down points on the vehicle floor. Subsequently, secure the tree with at least the seat belt; better yet, use ratchet straps to the eyes in the trunk.
Transporting the tree on the roof is the most demanding method in terms of securing it. It should only be considered if the vehicle has a suitable roof railing or roof luggage carrier. The tree should be laid on the vehicle with the trunk facing forward and secured tightly with tension straps or ratchet straps.
It is important to ensure that the tree does not obstruct the view, including the rear lights and license plate, and that a clear view to the front and sides, including mirrors, is always maintained. The handbrake, gear lever, and other controls must be easily operable.
Drivers should drive carefully, avoiding sharp turns or sudden stops, and should adjust their driving behavior and speed when transporting a tree. Experts recommend driving at lower speeds and checking regularly for movement to keep both the tree and the car intact.
For shorter distances, it is also possible to transport the Christmas tree home by cargo bike or bicycle with a trailer. When transporting a Christmas tree by bicycle, the load must be secured. Drivers should double-check that the tree doesn’t block their view, and it is important to ensure that the tree does not obstruct the cyclist’s view or become detached.

]]>Standing nearly three meters tall, the tree consists of an acrylic pyramid upon which a total of 2,024 collector coins of the Vienna Philharmonic are meticulously arranged. Each coin is a one-ounce gold piece produced by the Austrian Mint, and together they amount to approximately 63 kilograms (138 pounds) of gold. The coins feature, on one side, the organ of the Golden Hall of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and on the other side, various musical instruments.
Adorning the top of the tree is a large gold coin, enhancing its opulence. The total gold weight exceeds 60 kilograms (132 pounds), making the tree not only a festive decoration but also a substantial investment piece.
Mirko Schmidt, the founder of Proaurum, emphasized the unique qualities of gold in a statement. “Gold has many characteristics that differentiate it from other investments. It cannot be multiplied at will. It is another form of money. The gold Christmas tree extraordinarily represents the value of this metal,” he said, as quoted by RPP Noticias.
The creation of the tree was a collaborative effort between Proaurum and the Austrian Mint. While Proaurum claims the tree is “the most expensive in Europe,” according to Vanguardia, it is not for sale. “The value depends on the respective gold price—the tree, however, is not for sale,” a spokesperson for the gold dealer said, as reported by Die Welt. Münchner Merkur added that the value of the tree fluctuates with the gold market.
The tree is available for public viewing at Proaurum’s headquarters in Munich from now until December 15. Visitors have the opportunity to witness this unique blend of festive tradition and precious metal craftsmanship.
Proaurum’s gold Christmas tree is not the first of its kind to make headlines. In 2010, an even more valuable Christmas tree was displayed at a hotel in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, valued at more than eleven million dollars, according to Die Welt. This sparkling giant holds the Guinness World Record for the most expensive Christmas tree in the world.
In 2019, a Christmas tree in a hotel in Marbella, Spain, was said to be worth around €14 million ($14.73 million), though its value was unconfirmed by Guinness World Records, as reported by Stern. This tree was decorated with diamonds and sapphires, among other precious stones.
The Munich tree’s unveiling highlights the ongoing tradition of extravagant Christmas displays. The use of gold coins not only showcases the precious metal’s enduring value but also reflects a fusion of cultural heritage and modern celebration.
The tradition of decorating Christmas trees has deep roots in German culture. In the 16th century, people in Germany began to decorate trees inside their homes as part of Christmas. The trees were adorned with apples, symbolizing original sin, and candles, symbolizing the light of Christ.
This German tradition spread to other countries in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries, driven by migrations and royal marriages, according to Vanguardia. In England, the Christmas tree became popular in the 19th century, thanks to Queen Victoria and her husband, Prince Albert, who was of German origin.
The Munich Christmas tree represents not only a significant statement in terms of its monetary value but also highlights the enduring tradition of festive decorations during the holiday season. On the traditional Christmas markets in Munich, the decorations are somewhat more subdued.
The exhibition allows the public to witness this unique and valuable symbol of the festive season, blending the historical significance of the Christmas tree with contemporary expressions of wealth and artistry. Proaurum’s golden creation stands as a testament to both the enduring allure of gold and the timeless spirit of Christmas.

]]>The post Experts Warn Against Giving Pets as Christmas Gifts appeared first on My Daily Magazine - Art, Design, DIY, Fashion and Beauty !.
]]>Sadly, many animals given as Christmas gifts are later abandoned in overcrowded shelters, a situation worsened by the pandemic. Some larger animal shelters have attempted to combat post-holiday pet abandonment by not adopting out pets during the pre-Christmas season, which has shown positive effects.
Pet expert Perdita Lübbe-Scheuermann emphasizes that the responsibility and effort involved in giving a pet as a gift are often underestimated. She recommends that anyone considering getting a pet make a list of the advantages and the “side effects” and answer all questions honestly, as reported by the Frankfurter Allgemeine. Because of this, Lübbe-Scheuermann is fundamentally against giving animals as gifts. She advises that if the concerns outweigh the advantages, one should decide against getting the pet.
Additionally, finances, time, and space must be considered when acquiring a pet. Potential owners should consider the financial aspects that come with keeping a pet and adapt to the needs. Pet owners are often surprised by the high costs of pet ownership. In addition to food and regular veterinary visits for vaccinations or routine check-ups, veterinary bills can become a high cost factor if the pet becomes seriously ill.
Many children wish for a pet, but they are often unaware that pet ownership comes with significant responsibilities, including ongoing costs such as food and veterinary visits. After the holidays, some new pet owners quickly realize that the once-desired pet brings work that can be perceived as annoying, leading to the pet quickly ending up in the animal shelter.
Animal experts also advise against buying pets online. While the internet is an important source of information, many sellers advertise their animals there, but animal experts generally advise against buying pets online. According to Lübbe-Scheuermann, “No reputable breeder would sell their animals directly over the internet.” She advises potential buyers to ask breeders or sellers many questions and observe how they handle the animal and how the animal behaves towards them.
Instead, experts suggest that if the desire for a pet still exists after Christmas and after careful consideration, the local animal shelter is the right place to go. It is best to get to know the pet personally beforehand. A conscious decision and preparation help ensure that the adoption of a new family member becomes a rewarding experience, including careful consideration of which animal suits the buyer and where to purchase it.
Giving a voucher for an animal instead of the animal itself can be a better alternative under the Christmas tree. This way, the giver and the recipient can later search together for the right companion, as noted by the Frankfurter Allgemeine. As Lübbe-Scheuermann says, “You have to choose your own animal. And not by looks, but you have to feel if it fits.”

]]>Barcelona is preparing to celebrate an inclusive, diverse, and supportive Christmas, featuring the return of the Spirit of Christmas and events like the fourth edition of Els Llums de Sant Pau. The city will exceed 110 kilometers of Christmas lighting this year, with the first lights being turned on at the Recinto Modernista de Sant Pau, allowing residents and tourists to enjoy the festive displays.
Among the most anticipated traditions of the Christmas season in Barcelona are the Christmas markets. The Fira de Santa Llúcia, celebrating its 238th edition this year, opened its doors on November 24 and will close on December 23, filling the Avenida de la Catedral with Christmas spirit and marking the beginning of many traditions in the city. Located in front of the majestic Cathedral of Barcelona in the Gothic Quarter, the fair features over a hundred stalls dedicated to crafts and gift items, including textile accessories, ceramics, jewelry, and a wide selection of figures for the nativity scene, such as the traditional “caganer”.
The Sagrada Familia Christmas Market, known as the Fira de Nadal de la Sagrada Família, also adds to the festive atmosphere. This market is located in the Eixample neighborhood in front of the famous basilica designed by Antoni Gaudí. It offers visitors the option to buy Christmas trees, nativity figures, nougat, artisan food, gifts, and more, alongside concerts and gastronomic proposals. The market runs from November 29 to December 23, with opening hours from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, extending to 10:00 PM on Saturdays and the eve of holidays.
In addition to the markets, Barcelona offers multiple activities and proposals for all types of audiences, including fairs, the traditional nativity scene, guided visits, and ice rinks. This year’s nativity scene commemorates the centenary of Joan Salvat-Papasseit and pays tribute to him and the sea, which is this year’s protagonist due to the America’s Cup. A giant 20-pointed luminous star named “Origen”, inspired by the moment of the “creation of the universe”, will adorn Plaça Sant Jaume this year, replacing the traditional nativity scene.
Cultural events are also a significant part of the celebrations. The Barcelona Festival de Nadal will offer more than 25 free shows of theater, circus, dance, and music, catering to a variety of cultural tastes and budgets. From December 20 to 30, Plaça de Catalunya will become the center of performing arts with this festival, featuring seventeen performing arts companies and eight music groups. Mornings at the festival will feature small-format shows, afternoons will be dedicated to dance and street circus, and evenings will include concerts of varied music genres, from groove to folk.
“Sons de Ciutat” will bring music to the markets and commercial axes of the 10 districts during the Christmas holidays. From December 7 to January 3, this initiative will feature more than 80 concerts by local formations, representing the artistic richness of Barcelona, with a wide variety of genres including jazz, indie, classical, folk, pop, funk, soul, rumba, opera, and electronic music.
The New Year’s Eve show in Montjuïc will be one of the major proposals of the season. The show will feature a spectacular fusion of music and pyrotechnics, celebrating love and coexistence. More than 500 drones will illuminate the sky during the event, creating a memorable experience for attendees.
Another highlight is the “Sant Jordi de Nadal”, an event that combines two great traditions of Barcelona: Sant Jordi and Christmas. The Antigua Fábrica de Estrella Damm will host this event, which offers a great opportunity to enjoy books and meet authors, illustrators, and translators. Authors attending include Ramon Gener, Joan Dausà, Martí Gironell, Xantal Llavina, Màrius Serra, Elisenda Pineda, Laia Vilaseca, Tània Juste, Oriol Canals, and Jordi Puntí. Attendees will be able to participate in workshops or round tables with writers, as well as book presentations and interaction with authors.
The “Poblenou Open Night” supports various artistic disciplines including art, design, music, interior design, sculpture, audiovisuals, photography, floral art, jewelry, gastronomy, and illustration. The event will feature local and international artists. This initiative also organizes special solidarity activities to raise funds for municipalities affected by the DANA in the Community of Valencia.
Barcelona’s Christmas celebrations include traditional activities as well. The Three Wise Men from the East will return to Barcelona on January 5, making a triumphant entrance through the Portal de la Pau, with the Cabalgata (parade) taking place at 6:00 PM. Additionally, the Toy Factory of the Kings will open in Sant Andreu on December 27, where families will be able to see how the Kings’ gifts are created.
The city’s markets and commercial areas are also adorned with festive decorations. The facades of the 39 municipal markets will be illuminated with special activities, and over 20 light installations will create an interactive and participatory route at Els Llums de Sant Pau. The city council has allocated 3.3 million euros for the Christmas lighting, enhancing the festive spirit throughout Barcelona.
This Christmas, Barcelona debuts a new ice rink, initiated by El Corte Inglés, in front of its headquarters at Reina Maria Cristina, at the top of Diagonal. Visitors will be able to skate on the synthetic ice rink until January 12. The Tibidabo Amusement Park will also have a sustainable ice rink until January 5, located in Plaça dels Somnis.
Barcelona’s rich cultural heritage is reflected in its proverbs and traditions. The Catalan proverb “per Nadal, cada ovella al seu corral” (translated as “for Christmas, each sheep in its pen”) embodies an ancestral tradition linked to returning home, both in its literal and symbolic sense. The proverb emphasizes the importance of family during the festivities, reflecting the cultural richness of a region that values social cohesion and respect for tradition.
From festive markets filled with crafts and gastronomic delights to cultural events showcasing music, theater, and art, the city offers a magical time when the streets are illuminated with thousands of lights, filled with music, and breathe a unique festive atmosphere.
