This year’s BAFTA Awards gave us many amazing red carpet trends. If we had to pick our absolute favorite, velvet dresses would make the cut. This lavish fabric reigned supreme at the BAFTAs red carpet, and here are five stars who couldn’t resist it.

Naomi Campbell

We can count on Campbell to always be the first person to embrace rising fashion trends, and she was one of the stars to put velvet dresses on the map at the BAFTAs.

Caitriona Balfe

Black velvet dresses were all the rage at the BAFTAs, and Balfe embraced this trend in her simple, yet stylish Armani Prive dress with long, pointy sleeves.

Millie Bobby Brown

The Stranger Things star attended her first BAFTAs this year, and she wore a black Louis Vuitton gown with velvet top and sheer, lace skirt, and finished the look with a matching pair of opera gloves.

Salma Hayek

In a sea of black velvet gowns, Hayek decided to do something a little bit different and knocked us off our feet with her purple gothic Gucci dress with lacy details.

Lady Gaga

Hayek’s House of Gucci co-star also gave velvet her seal of approval. Lady Gaga brought Old Hollywood glamour to the red carpet in a velvet Ralph Lauren dress with a dramatic dark-green silk train.

The virtual format of this year’s BAFTA Awards didn’t stop our favorite stars from teaming up with leading designers and bringing their A-fashion game to the red carpet. This ceremony gave us countless stunning looks and put several amazing red carpet trends on the map.

Metallic Vibes

If we had to pick the leading fashion trend at this year’s BAFTAs, metallic dresses would take the cake. Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Renée Zellweger, and Cynthia Erivo were amongst the stars embracing this trend, but Vanessa Kirby looked better than anyone in her classy Versace gown.

Bright Tones

Dresses in different shades of yellow, orange, and red were all the rage at the BAFTAs. Andra Day, Ashley Madekwe, and Niamh Algar were amongst the stars embracing this trend, but our favorite colorful look came in the form of Anna Kendrick’s pleated Zuhair Murad gown.

Black Elegance

No award ceremony can go without a couple of classy black dresses, and BAFTAs gave us quite a few. Phoebe Dynevor led the way in her asymmetric Louis Vuitton gown, and she was joined by Priyanka Chopra, Felicity Jones, Sophie Cookson, and many more stars in classy black gowns.

Florence Pugh

Florence Pugh dressed in a stunning pink gown by Dries van Noten. Her outfit was definitely one of the fashion highlights of the evening.

Renee Zellweger

Renee Zellweger dazzled in Prada. If Florence Pugh hadn’t already established pink as the unspoken color of the BAFTAs, Zellweger definitely confirmed it.

Jodie Turner-Smith

Jodie Turner-Smith wore a stunning yellow gown by Gucci. She proved that maternity-wear definitely does not need to be boring.

Charlize Theron

We quite literally cannot get enough of Charlize Theron this award season. Her purple gown courtesy of Dior was another style win in the midst of a strong fashion season for Theron.

Zoe Kravitz

Zoe Kravitz wore St Laurant on the red carpet and made quite an impression. She looks sleek as ever in shiny metallics with a 20’s-style hairdo.

BAFTA Awards gave us another pretty epic red carpet and got us even more excited for all the amazing dresses we’ll get to see at the Oscars this weekend. Check out some of the fashion trends that dominated this award show.

Pink Overload

We got to see many different shades of pink at the BAFTAs as many celebrities embraced this romantic color. Their choices ranged from simple (Laura Dern and Renee Zellweger) to extremely over the top (Florence Pugh and Scarlett Johansson).

Feathers and Fringe

Speaking of over the top looks – fringed and feathered dresses made a major appearance at the ceremony. They were often mixed up with sequins, making each of the dresses that featured this combo truly extravagant.

Back to Black

If we had to pick one color that dominated the red carpet at the BAFTAs, it would definitely be black. Many of the stars attending the ceremony opted for a safe choice and hit the red carpet in sleek black dresses, including Rooney Mara, Saoirse Ronan, and Emilia Clarke.
