If you’re having a hard time committing to your solo workouts, finding a workout buddy could give you a push in the right direction—as long as it’s the right person for the job. There are some types of people that are best avoided when you’re looking for a workout buddy and these three fall under that category.

Not Consistent

We all have that one friend who’s constantly canceling plans or showing up late—and that’s not the kind of a friend you want for your workout buddy. The whole point of the buddy system is to have someone who’ll help you commit to the routine, and you can’t count on your flaky friend to get the job done.

Overly-Critical

If you’re still at the beginning of your fitness journey, working out with overly-critical people could be a major motivation killer. You should be seeking people who won’t put you down but lift you up and help you build up your confidence instead of making you feel bad about yourself.

Super-Active

There’s nothing wrong with working out with super-active people, but not if you’re still at the beginning of your fitness journey. It’s always a good idea to find a workout buddy who’s on a similar fitness level as you because you’ll have an easier time lifting each other up and reaching your goals together.
