The way we take care of our skin changes with the season, and certain products you swear by in the summer won’t do you any good once winter arrives. If you’re looking for a way to adjust your skincare routine during the colder months of the year, here are some tips that will keep your skin healthy all winter long.

Gentler Cleanser

Gentle cleansers are a must for cold winter months because they won’t strip your skin of its natural oils. Foaming cleansers won’t do you any favors, and you should replace yours with an oil or cream cleanser with a gentler, hydrating formula until warmer seasons arrive.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

Moisturize is one of the skincare essentials you’re already using, and you shouldn’t skimp on it during cold winter months. More is more when it comes to using moisturizer this season because your skin will be drying out more quickly, and you should even consider switching to products with a thicker formula.

Don’t Ditch SPF

Most people treat SPF as a summer product, but it’s time to put a stop to this common misconception. It’s crucial to wear it all year long, especially when you’re doing winter sports where you’re exposed to the sun, thus protecting yourself from UV damage at all times.

Just like your wardrobe, with the seasonal changes, you need to update your skincare routine. With the colder months comes cold winds, dry air, and exposure to indoor heaters which can cause redness, skin sensitivity, and irritation. These simple swaps and additions can help transition your skincare routine into winter.

Transition Cleanser to Balms and Oils

While foaming or salicylic acid-based cleansers are good at removing dirt and oil, they contain sulfates that can dry out your skin. Instead, switch to cleansing balms and oils, which will keep your skin hydrated.

Add an Exfoliator

Gentle exfoliation can remove dead skin cells that accumulate from dry winter air and they’ll give you that glowy skin you’re after. They also help your moisturizer absorb better.

Reduce Shower Time

There’s nothing like getting in a nice hot shower once the weather drops, but prolonged exposure to hot water can strip your skin of its moisture, making it dryer than before. Start taking lukewarm showers only once a day and after you get out of the shower, apply moisturizer.

Use an Overnight Mask

Now’s the time to start using overnight face masks which lock in the serums, creams, and oils that you applied before heading to bed.
