With all the extra time we spend at home, this pandemic has made more people want to make their living spaces extra cozy. Not going out as much and skipping this year’s vacations leaves more room in the budget for all the home improvement projects you’ve been putting off for so long. If you’ve been thinking about adding some decor items to your walls but are not sure what, here are our suggestions that aren’t as obvious as framed photos.

Mood Board / Vision Board

Spend a fun day creating your own mood board or vision board to remind you of all the big and small things that bring joy into your life. You can make a themed board or you can put anything you like on it, as long as it inspires you to stay happy, creative, and productive.

Woven Art

Hang trendy woven baskets or plates that will add that bohemian flair to your home. Having different textures is always nice and natural colors of wooden items go with pretty much any style.

Books

You can have your books all in one place on bookshelves or as a big library in a separate room, or you can put them on wall shelves and use them as decor throughout your home. If you love books, you probably have some beautiful editions that you want to look at all the time, so think about the ways you can display them.

Paint is the easiest and least expensive way to transform any room in your home. Sure, solid walls are one way to refresh rooms, these painting ideas make a statement with their bold patterns, contrasting colors, and fun textures. Grab your rollers, overalls, and some cans of paint and get to decorating with these fun ideas!

Buffalo Check

You’ll need three coordinating colors for this technique and to make the buffalo check pattern, use a ruler and level to mark vertical and horizontal lines spaced four inches apart. Outline the stripes with painters tape and paint horizontal lines in the lightest color. With your medium-tone color paint vertical lines, then fill the squares where the vertical and horizontal lines intersect with the darkest shade of paint.

Two-Toned

It doesn’t get much easier than these two-toned walls—just mark your paint line using painters tape and a level and paint the area below to get the color-blocked look.

Painted Wall Stripes

This wall painting idea is great for home offices and kids bedrooms and playrooms. To paint the striped wall, use painters tape and a level to mark off equally spaced horizontal lines. Paint inside the tape sections and remove the tape when the paint is dry.

DIY Ombre

Use three paints in dark, medium, and light colors. To get the in-between shades, mix equal parts of your dark and medium paints and your light and medium paints. Paint the darkest color at the bottom and the medium shade above it, making sure to leave a gap between. Then, while the paint is wet, brush the medium-dark shade in the space between, using vertical strokes to blend them together. Repeat this step with your lighter colors as you move up the wall.

Artwork can change the feel of a room and once you’ve selected one you love, you’re next step is picking out the right frame. With so many different options available, it can be overwhelming to pick the right color and style. Here’s what to keep in mind when choosing a frame for your artwork.

Choose Your Color and Style

It’s best to keep things simple, so the focus remains on what’s inside the frame. Thin wood gallery frames in blacks, whites, and natural wood finishes are always a good choice as they work well with any type of art. If you like something a bit extravagant, try metallic frames.

Consider a Gallery Wall

Avoid frames that are matchy-matchy as gallery walls look better with frames that look like they were added over time.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B7bapYblUSe/

No Frames

For most artwork, you’ll want to frame it, but there are always exceptions like stretched canvas pieces or old oil paintings. If the piece is valuable, frame it to keep it safe from air and the elements.

Choose the Matting

Make sure you keep the matting simple by using a white backdrop. For darker pieces, forgo the matting and stick with a black frame to make the piece look frameless.

If you love bright colors, why not try some wall stickers to bring a theme into your room. The wall stickers won’t damage the walls as they peel off easily when you are done with them.

We’re tired of looking at our bland white walls and it never seems like we have enough paintings to hang on them. Wall murals can easily solve this problem and there are so many designs to choose from. You’re bound to find one you like.

Here’s how to install your very own murals on your walls.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B5ANhNrJtNZ/

The Prep

Take down the measurements for your wall including the height and width, so you order the right mural size. Make sure you remove nails, outlets, light switches, and screws from the walls.

Unroll

Start by laying the panels on the floor in the correct order. Many sets are already numbered, which makes the whole process easier. Have another person help you peel off the backing of the adhesive or to help you apply the paste to the wall.

Stick it On

Put the first panel on the wall and press it on with your hands. Use a scraper to get rid of the air bubbles. Repeat this step with the other panels until you’re finished. If there is excess paste be sure to wipe it off with a damp towel and let it dry. The last step is to trim any leftover paper from the top and bottom. Walla, you’re finished!
