Washington Football Team’s veteran Thomas Davis plans to retire at the end of the 2020 NFL season.

Davis made the announcement on social media on Tuesday, writing on Instagram that the Week 17 matchup against Philadelphia Eagles will be the last regular-season game in his career.

“I’m extremely blessed and thankful for every opportunity that I’ve earned because nothing is ever given to you!” Davis wrote.

The game against the Eagles, however, might not be the last NFL appearance for the 37-year-old linebacker. If Washington gets a win on Sunday, they will make the playoffs as the NFC East leaders. This would prolong Davis’ career for at least one more game.

Thomas Davis spent the first 14 years of his NFL career with the Carolina Panthers, who took him with in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft. During his time with the franchise, Davis earned three Pro Bowl nods while helping Carolina to a Super Bowl appearance in 2015.

Davis left Carolina in 2019, playing one season with LA Chargers before deciding to reunite with his former head coach Ron Rivera at Washington in 2020.

Throughout his pro career, Davis played 199 games in NFL. He racked up 1,216 tackles, 29.0 sacks, 61 QB hits, 55 pass deflections, 18 forced fumbles, and 13 interceptions.
