]]>The match began with both teams demonstrating high intensity. Liverpool, missing Alexis Mac Allister due to suspension, struggled to establish control against Girona’s compact and disciplined defensive setup. Girona, competing in their first Champions League campaign, displayed determination and flair, with Arnaut Danjuma spearheading several promising attacks. However, their inability to convert chances left the game goalless at halftime.
In the 59th minute, Liverpool’s fortunes shifted when Luis Díaz was brought down in the box by Donny van de Beek. Following a detailed VAR review, the referee awarded a penalty. Mohamed Salah stepped up and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom-left corner, leaving Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga with no chance. The goal was Salah’s 10th in all competitions this season, cementing his role as Liverpool’s lucky charm.
The momentum briefly swung in Liverpool’s favor as they pushed for a second goal. Darwin Núñez and Ryan Gravenberch came close to scoring but were thwarted by Gazzaniga’s excellent goalkeeping. Girona, roared on by a supportive home crowd, launched a spirited fightback in the final minutes. Midfielders Oriol Romeu and Aleix García worked tirelessly to create openings, but Liverpool’s defense, led by Virgil van Dijk and the returning Alisson Becker, held firm.
After the match, Liverpool manager Arne Slot commended his team’s resilience in a tough away fixture. “It wasn’t our most fluid performance, but the players showed character to secure the result,” Slot said, praising Alisson as “the best goalkeeper in the world” for his crucial saves (as reported by The Guardian). Girona coach Míchel expressed pride in his team’s effort, saying, “We pushed one of Europe’s best teams to their limits today.”
The result confirmed Liverpool as group winners, setting them up for the knockout rounds. Girona’s qualification hopes now depend on other group results, but their campaign has been a testament to their progress as a rising force in European football.
Elsewhere in the Champions League, favorites such as Manchester City and Real Madrid also sealed qualification for the next round, while several groups remain tightly contested ahead of the final matches. As the tournament progresses, Liverpool is proving itself as a serious contender for Europe’s most coveted trophy.
The final two rounds will be played at the start of 2025.

]]>“I think more than ever today, it was frustration,” the head coach said when asked to compare the match to other recent losses in which the team appeared more disheartened. “San Jose managed the ball in the field from the first moments and we couldn’t figure out why.”
He noted that while he’d emphasized each player’s responsibility before the match, “There was frustration as we got more down in the second half. It’s not good for me as a coach to see that.”
The result leaves LA Galaxy at the bottom of the MLS Western Conference table and leaves them with little to no chance of getting a playoff spot this year. There is definitely improvement needed from Schelotto’s side after just 4 wins in their 16 games played.
Galaxy defender Daniel Steres also seemed frustrated after the game saying their performance “wasn’t good from the start” and that they “didn’t play well”.

]]>LAFC is already without the likes of Tristan Blackmon and Mexican star Carlos Vela through injury, as well as Diego Rossi, Brian Rodriguez, Diego Palacios, and Jose Cifuentes through international duty. In addition, both Mark-Anthony Kaye and Andy Najar received injuries during LAFC’s 3-1 win over the Seattle Sounders on Sunday night and neither will be available for the match against Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday night.
“With Mark-Anthony it’s a grade two ankle sprain, it’s hard to give a definite timetable for what that looks like,” head coach Bob Bradley told media on a virtual press conference Tuesday. “The good news is swelling went down, the early signs are positive. Andy has a slight hamstring injury, we feel bad for him. It’s been a little bit reoccurring. His return to play has had ups and downs, which are frustrating for a player to deal with, but I don’t think the injury is real bad.”
Head coach Bob Bradley understands the struggle that LAFC is facing and says that they are “certainly relying on depth”. However, Bradley has full confidence in his squad saying that “when it’s their turn, they have to be and will be ready to help the team”.

]]>His dream day got even better when the well-renowned head of sport said in a press release, “Caden is a promising young player, and everyone at the club is excited about his growth and the qualities he’s shown during his first professional season. He’s earned an opportunity to move up to the first team, and we look forward to his continued growth and development as a player and person.”
The young Caden Clark was then informed that he would be named in the starting 11 for his new team in Saturday night’s match against Atlanta United.
It took the 17-year-old forward “5-10 minutes to get into the groove of what the MLS is all about,” according to his new head coach Bradley Carnell. Once Clark settled into the game however, he started making passes and plays and his confidence grew.
In the 47th minute of the game, Clark’s day got even better when he scored the winning goal on his debut to win the game for the New York Red Bulls. He scored a well-taken volley past Atlanta’s and USMNT veteran goalkeeper Brad Guzan.
“I didn’t believe it and I still don’t believe it,” Clark admitted. “It’s just really exciting for me. It hasn’t hit me yet, but I’m sure it will soon. But, you know, it’s just, it’s great for this team to get this win, and that is the most important part.”
