After enjoying an impressive 7-6(2) 6-0 victory over Kristie Ahn in the first round of the French Open, three-time champion Serena Williams withdrew from the competition due to suffering an Achilles injury. This sees her would-be opponent Tsvetana Pironkova progress to the third round by default.

Williams had the following to say in her follow-up press conference: “I think I need four to six weeks of sitting and doing nothing. I have been struggling to walk so that’s a telltale sign that I should try to recover. Achilles is an injury you don’t want to play with – I think it was one of the worst, don’t want to get to that point, I want it to get better.”

Williams initially picked up this injury during her US Open semi-final clash with Victoria Azarenka earlier this month. While initially a minor infraction, the injury gradually worsened until Williams could not continue to participate on the court.

Prior to her withdrawal, Williams was aiming to secure her 24th Grand Slam singles title, thereby equaling the all-time record held by Margaret Court. The unseeded Pironkova, on the other hand, will progress to the third round of the French Open for only the third time in her career.

Tennis champion Serena Williams recently spoke about her nightly skin-care routine for the Harper’s Bazaar’s Go To Bed With Me series. In this interview, Williams shared some great advice that we believe will be helpful to many women.

Williams starts her bedtime regime by using a quality Australian cold-pressed coconut oil, which she absolutely adores.”So I take a bunch of coconut oil and I literally just rub it all on my face. This can literally be your only step if that’s all you want.” The tennis player said she rubs coconut only not only on her face, but on her lips, body, and hair as well.

Once her face is clean, she uses vitamin C serum, which helps her brighten her skin. Williams says she discovered this on her baby moon in Mexico and has been using it ever since. “I do a couple dabs and put it on my face,” she said.

A big part of her routine is also a hydrating eye cream. “When I’m traveling I even put this on my face because whatever you’re using on your eyes is moisturizing and can work for the whole face.”

Probably the best advice that Williams shared in this interview is that we have to find a good beauty routine and adjust it to our own skin – that’s the only way to have healthy and glowy skin every day.
