The capital of Czechia (or the Czech Republic) is world-famous for its stunning architecture, inspiring museums and grand opera halls. Many thousands visit each year, seeking that Bohemian spirit. The city isn’t huge, so most sites are within walking distance of each other. Whilst many visit at Christmas for that festive sparkle, Prague is a great destination at any time of year. Here is a list of three must-sees in this gorgeous city.

Prague Castle

Like something from a fairy story, Prague Castle is an impressive monument with a history to match. Here, emperors have been crowned and popes anointed. Wander around the extensive grounds, and make sure to stop and take a look at the breath-taking cityscape from the castle ramparts.

Vltava River

The longest river in Czechia passes through its capital. Locals love lounging on its banks with a beer in the evenings. The river cruises set off daily and often provide interesting historical and cultural details about the city.

Vyšehrad Fort

Looming above the river, this fort dates from the 10th century and offers panoramic views over the city. It is also quieter and more peaceful than the castle, which can become crowded due to its popularity with tourists.

Beer, or in Czech – Pivo has a long history in its home country and it’s the most popular beverage that the Czech Republic is known for. The long story of brewing in this country starts at Břevnov Monastery in 993. The city of Brno had the right to brew beer from the 12th century while Plzeň and České Budějovice (Pilsen and Budweis in German), had breweries in the 13th century.

Highest Consumption

The Czech Republic has the highest beer consumption per capita in the world. The most common are pale lagers of pilsner type, with high foaminess and a lighter flavor, known for the characteristic transparent golden color.

Most Popular

Visiting the Czech Republic mostly means visiting Prague. This city has a lot of beautiful attractions that tourists have to see, but they also want to drink the best beers.

One of the most popular within the Czech Republic, but not well-known outside the country, is the Pilsner Urquell brewery, which also produces Gambrinus.

Another beer brewed in Prague is Staropramen, and it’s widely available in bars and pubs in the capital.

There is a village outside Prague called Velké Popovice, and a much-loved beer there is Kozel.

Give it a Taste

Also, some other top-selling brands include Krušovice, Starobrno, Březňák, Zlatopramen, Lobkowicz, Bernard and Svijany, and Budweiser Budvar.
