]]>The NCAA Division I Council confirmed the news on Wednesday, approving the November 25 start date which is two weeks later than usual. Teams won’t be able to hold scrimmage games or play exhibition dates prior to this start date.
Due to the unusual circumstances of this season, there will be a smaller number of tournaments with teams playing fewer games. In order for teams to be tournament-eligible, they must play a minimum of 13 games with a max of 27 games.
According to reports, the NCAA is considering staging eight tournaments in a bubble setting early in the season. They would follow the NBA’s example and play games at Disney World in Orlando.
While the outlook of the NCAA men’s tournament is still undecided, the division’s leadership hopes to have 68 teams play in 14 different locations. If this holds not to be possible, the tournament could instead be held in a bubble setting.
The 2019/20 NCAA Division I men’s basketball season ended early due to the pandemic and all of the postseason tournaments were canceled.
