]]>The film, based on the book of the same name by Frank Herbert is sure to be an instant classic. But the costume design in the film looks like it is out of this world, both literally and figuratively.
Jaqueline West is the Academy Award-winning costume designer for the film. She has previously worked on films like The Revenant, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Water for Elephants. According to the Dune trailer, Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya’s characters will have very futuristic clothing, with a Middle Eastern flair.
The film largely takes place on a desert planet called Arrakis nicknamed Dune. Due to this, we know their clothes will need to protect the characters from the sand.
Timothée Chalamet’s character, Paul Atreides, is seen wearing a long black trench coat, which has echoes of The Matrix about it. Zendaya’s character Chani is wearing a stillsuit. According to the novel, stillsuits are designed to recycle all of the body’s moisture as there is very little water on Dune. There should also be some epic military fashion, as there are a lot of battles in the book.
When this movie hits the big screen next year, we will be in for a stylistic treat.
