In an interview earlier this year, Ramirez hinted at a comeback saying that he is looking to land a spot on one of the teams competing in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL). While this move didn’t pan out, the 12-time MLB All-Star managed to get an opportunity to compete once again.

The prospect of having a legit baseball legend on the team sits well with the Blue Sox manager Shane Barclay, who told reporters on Wednesday that he expects Ramirez to make a real contribution for the team this season.

“He’s an incredible athlete,” said Barclay on Wednesday. “He’s legit and here to play and bought in every way. He’s going to hit some long balls this season.”

Manny Ramirez suited up for the Cleveland Indians and the LA Dodgers during the 19 years he spent in Major League Baseball but remains best remembered for his contributions with Red Sox. He helped the franchise win two World Series while also earning World Series MVP nod in 2004.

After leaving MLB in 2011, Ramirez had several stints in the minors while also playing baseball in China, Dominican Republic, and Japan.
