]]>The egg-shaped makeup sponge is pretty much the best thing since sliced bread. The shape enables us to apply our foundation evenly for the flawless finish we’re all after.
These days, there’s a whole bunch of variations of the classic egg shape. Here’s what each shape excels at so that you can get the most out of your makeup sponge.
The classic egg shape is perfect for applying foundation and blending across your face. The pointed tip is great for reaching smaller areas like beneath the brow and if you are going to limit yourself to one sponge, this ought to be it.
The ridged sponges are great for applying concealer as you can apply more easily to precise areas.
The eggs with a flat edge are great for all-over foundation application as well as reaching the nooks and crannies. The flat edge is great for under the eyes and the rounded side is perfect for larger surface areas.
The half-moon egg is designed for targeting specific areas, which makes it the ideal sponge for hiding dark circles and targeting the under-eye area.

]]>The most basic way to clean a makeup sponge is to add a few drops of liquid cleanser in warm water and soak your sponge in it. After only a few minutes your sponge will be ready as new. Make sure you wash out the soap thoroughly from your sponge before you use it.
You can choose between a liquid cleanser or a bar of soap to clean your dirty makeup sponge. Once you apply the soap, gently squeeze the sponge to clean it and rinse with cold water once you’re done. Soap can dry your sponge and break it down so don’t do this too often.
This technique must sound weird but it has the same effect as putting your makeup sponge in a washing machine. Add a few drops of soap in water, submerge the sponge in it and leave the cup in the microwave for a minute. Once it cools you can rinse the sponge and prepare to use it.
