]]>Thompson, who sat out all of 2019/20 due to an ACL injury, got hurt again during a workout on Wednesday. Reportedly, the 30-year-old All-Star felt pain in his calf during one play and immediately knew something was wrong.
Golden State initially hoped that Thompson’s injury wasn’t as severe as it seemed. Unfortunately, MRI tests on Thursday morning showed the Achilles tendon tear.
The news represents a tough blow for the Warriors, who hoped to get back to contention next season. They finished with the worst record in NBA in 2019/20, playing without Thompson as well as two other All-Stars in Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, who were out for the better part of the season.
The Warriors’ best hope now is that someone else can step up and try to make up for the loss of Klay Thompson. The list of potential candidates includes talented but inconsistent Andrew Wiggins and this year’s No.2 pick James Wiseman.
