The Golden State Warriors overcame a 10-point halftime deficit and a historic performance by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder 116-109 on Wednesday night. According to ESPN, Gilgeous-Alexander, who had 52 points, powered the Thunder, but it wasn’t enough to stave off a balanced Warriors effort led by Stephen Curry and Andrew Wiggins.

The Thunder came out firing in the first half, with Gilgeous-Alexander scoring 21 of Oklahoma City’s 34 first-quarter points. By halftime, the Thunder were up 58-48, with Gilgeous-Alexander tallying 31 points. He finished the night with 16-of-29 shooting from the field and made 18 of 21 free throws. Despite his remarkable effort, Oklahoma City could not withstand a strong second-half push from the Warriors.

Fighting Back

Golden State, who struggled early in the game, began to chip away at the Thunder’s lead in the third quarter. After being down by 14 points at one stage, the Warriors fought back, using a surge of offense to take control in the latter half. Curry, who had been struggling with sore knees, found his rhythm in the second half. He scored 17 of his 21 points after halftime, helping the Warriors seize the lead in the fourth quarter.

Alongside Curry’s comeback performance, Wiggins was a key contributor, finishing the game with 27 points on 10-of-17 shooting, as noted by Yahoo! Sports. The Warriors’ bench also played a crucial role in their victory, outscoring Oklahoma City’s 48-21. Kevon Looney tied his career high with 18 points, and Gary Payton II added 15 points and nine rebounds, including a clutch one-handed dunk late in the game that energized the crowd, as noted by Sportsnet.

Challenges on Offense

The Thunder, despite the remarkable play of their star, faced challenges on the offensive end. They finished 9-of-39 from beyond the arc, and their bench failed to match the Warriors’ depth. Additionally, Isaiah Hartenstein’s 18 rebounds provided some hope, but the Thunder’s offense sputtered as the Warriors gained momentum in the second half.

Key moments came late in the game when Curry’s go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:52 left and a crucial shot from Wiggins sealed the win for the Warriors. Gary Payton II’s dunk in the final minutes served as the exclamation point on a thrilling comeback.

The Warriors’ victory was a testament to their resilience, as they showed a significant turnaround after their disappointing defeat to the Boston Celtics just nine days earlier. Golden State now holds a 24-23 record and will face the Phoenix Suns on Friday.

The Thunder, sitting atop the Western Conference, will head back to Oklahoma City to face the Sacramento Kings on Saturday. Despite the loss, Oklahoma City remains a formidable force in the league with Gilgeous-Alexander’s continued dominance.

As the Warriors continue their homestand, the importance of balanced team efforts, including contributions from Curry, Wiggins, and their bench, was on full display as they managed to overcome the Thunder’s star power.

The Golden State Warriors survived a dramatic comeback attempt from the Minnesota Timberwolves, securing a 116-115 win on January 15, 2025. Despite leading by as much as 24 points during the game, the Warriors were forced to fend off a late surge from the Timberwolves, who nearly completed the comeback in the final minutes.

Wiggins’ Key Role

According to Golden State of Mind, Andrew Wiggins played a crucial role in the Warriors’ victory, finishing with 24 points. The veteran forward was especially impactful in the second half, scoring 18 of his points after the break. Wiggins’ scoring helped the Warriors maintain a lead even as the Timberwolves grew more aggressive in their pursuit.

Stephen Curry also contributed significantly to the win, scoring 31 points and recording eight assists. His leadership on the floor, combined with Wiggins’ scoring, allowed Golden State to edge out Minnesota in a tightly contested battle.

Kerr acknowledged that he “doesn’t like” having Curry play such heavy minutes but emphasized that it’s necessary to help the Warriors climb the standings. He explained: “I hate that his [Steph Curry] minutes are creeping up, I don’t like it but we gotta do what we gotta do. Hopefully as we get reinforcements back, we’ll be able to get him back down to that 30-32 mark.” He continued: “Tonight we had to let it rip and he’s got a couple of days before the next game and it was important to get this win,” as reported by NBA Analysis.

The Timberwolves, led by star guard Anthony Edwards, rallied late, narrowing the gap to a single point. However, a few missed opportunities and crucial defensive stops by the Warriors allowed Golden State to escape with the win. Edwards acknowledged the poor start, saying, “The start was bad. We know we got to get better, but I think it’s all about the finish.” He added, “Not like moral victories, but we fought. … We fought, so I’m proud of that,” as reported by Sports Illustrated.

Showing Resilience

Minnesota’s attempt at a comeback showcased their resilience, but it was ultimately not enough to overcome the Warriors’ offensive firepower. Edwards finished with 26 points, but it was clear that the Timberwolves’ slow start in the first half made it difficult to recover.

Despite their strong lead slipping away, the Warriors remained composed in the final minutes, securing the much-needed victory to strengthen their position in the Western Conference standings.

With this win, the Warriors improve their record and look ahead to their upcoming games, where they will seek to continue their momentum. The Timberwolves, on the other hand, will need to regroup and focus on closing out games more effectively in future matchups.

Both teams are expected to remain competitive throughout the season, and with the performance displayed in this game, it’s clear that they are capable of making noise in the playoffs.

The Houston Rockets stunned the Golden State Warriors with a dramatic 91-90 victory in the NBA Cup quarterfinals, advancing to the semifinals in Las Vegas. In a game filled with tension and controversy, a late-game sequence involving a questionable foul call sealed the Rockets’ win, leaving Warriors coach Steve Kerr fuming over the officiating.

Deciding Moment

The game’s pivotal moment came with 3.5 seconds left on the clock. Golden State’s Gary Payton II, attempting to secure the ball while on the ground, was called for a foul after Houston’s Jalen Green made a steal. Green subsequently sank two free throws, giving Houston the lead. Despite having a final possession, the Warriors’ Brandin Podziemski had his game-winning shot blocked, sealing Golden State’s fate.

The Rockets were led by Alperen Şengün, who delivered a stellar performance with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Golden State’s Jonathan Kuminga topped his team’s scoring with 20 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Houston’s resilient defense, which held the Warriors to just 37 points in the first half.

Steve Kerr’s Anger

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was furious with the controversial call both during and after the game. During the postgame press conference, CBS Sports reported that Kerr did not mince words, criticizing the referee: “I’ve never seen that. I think I saw it in college one time 30 years ago. Never seen it in the NBA. That is unconscionable. I don’t even understand what just happened. Loose ball, diving on the floor 80 feet from the basket and you’re gonna give a guy two free throws to decide a game when people are scrambling for the ball? Give them a timeout and let the players decide the game.” Referee Billy Kennedy explained to a pool reporter that the foul was justified due to Kuminga making contact “in the neck and shoulder area.”

The Rockets, now boasting a 16-8 record, snapped their 15-game losing streak against the Warriors, dating back to 2020. Houston’s young roster showcased remarkable poise, with Jabari Smith Jr. adding 15 points to the effort. The Warriors, meanwhile, suffered from five empty possessions in the game’s final minutes, including multiple shot-clock violations.

The win propels Houston to the NBA Cup semifinals, highlighting the growth of their promising core. For Golden State, the loss marks a bitter end to their Cup campaign and a missed opportunity for a shot at the inaugural in-season tournament title.

Golden State will look to bounce back in regular-season play after their seventh loss in their last nine games, while the Rockets prepare to carry their momentum into Las Vegas, aiming for a shot at the Cup championship.

After missing the better part of 2019/20 with an injury, Golden State Warriors’ superstar Steph Curry struggled to find his rhythm early in the season. But this wasn’t the case against the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night, as Curry exploded with a career-high 62 points to give his team a 137-122 win.

Curry started the game red-hot, shooting 7 out of 11 and delivering 21 points in the first quarter alone

The two-time NBA MVP added 10 more to close the first half and then torched Portland with 31 additional points in the second half.

Curry finished the game with 62 points, five rebounds, and four assists. He shot 18-for-31 from the field and 8-for-16  from the three-point arc while making 18 out of his 19 free throw attempts.

“It was just a brilliant performance,” said Warriors head coach Steve Kerr after the game. “It’s just a privilege to coach him. It really is. … What a performance tonight.”

Several other Warriors’ players stepped up to help Curry, with Andrew Wiggins scoring 21 and Kelly Oubre Jr. adding 17. Rookie James Wiseman also had an encouraging performance, recording his first double-double as a pro with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum led the way for Trail Blazers, scoring 32 points and 28 points, respectively.

After playing basketball in China for a year, veteran guard Jeremy Lin is on track to return to the NBA. And he might just do it with the team that gave him his first shot in the league.

According to multiple reports, Lin will sign a deal with Exhibit 10 deal with Golden State Warriors in the coming days. The 32-year-old Lin, however, isn’t expected to be part of the team’s 15-men roster and should play for their G League affiliate Santa Cruz Warriors.

Playing in G League gives Lin a better chance of making an NBA roster. He can either get signed by another team or promoted to NBA by Warriors on a two-way contract.

Jeremy Lin spent his rookie season with the Warriors, playing 29 games with the organization during the 2010/11 NBA season. He averaged less than 10 minutes on the floor, contributing 2.6 points per game.

After this struggling outing in Golden State, Lin joined New York Knicks during the 2011/12 campaign. In New York, he had a productive 12-game stretch that later became known as “Linsanity” and established him as a quality starter in the league.

Lin later played with Houston Rockets, LA Lakers, Charlotte Hornets, and Atlanta Hawks, among other teams. His last NBA stint was an NBA Title run with Toronto Raptors in 2019.

Lin spent the 2019/20 season with Beijing Ducks, playing in 39 games and averaging 22.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game. He helped the Ducks to playoffs semis, where they lost to defending champions Guangdong Southern Tigers.

Golden State Warriors will have to play out another season without their sharpshooter Klay Thompson. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Thompson suffered an Achilles tear and will miss the 2020/21 season.

Thompson, who sat out all of 2019/20 due to an ACL injury, got hurt again during a workout on Wednesday. Reportedly, the 30-year-old All-Star felt pain in his calf during one play and immediately knew something was wrong.

Golden State initially hoped that Thompson’s injury wasn’t as severe as it seemed. Unfortunately, MRI tests on Thursday morning showed the Achilles tendon tear.

The news represents a tough blow for the Warriors, who hoped to get back to contention next season. They finished with the worst record in NBA in 2019/20, playing without Thompson as well as two other All-Stars in Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, who were out for the better part of the season.

The Warriors’ best hope now is that someone else can step up and try to make up for the loss of Klay Thompson. The list of potential candidates includes talented but inconsistent Andrew Wiggins and this year’s No.2 pick James Wiseman.

Golden State Warriors are looking to get back in the NBA Title mix after a disappointing and injury-riddled 2019/20 season. One of the ways to do so is trading for an impactful player, something that the organization is reportedly already working on.

During his recent appearance on The Jump, ESPN’s Nick Friedell reported that the Warriors identified Phoenix Suns’ wing Kelly Oubre Jr. as one of their preferred targets this offseason. According to Friedell, Golden State believes that Oubre has the making of a complementary piece for its stars Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.

Oubre had a great campaign last season, posting career-highs all across the board, including 18.7 points and 6.4 rebounds. He also established himself as a capable defender, something that Golden State highly appreciates.

It is unclear how much it would take for Warriors to land Kelly Oubre or whether Phoenix is even interested in selling.

Oubre is currently on an affordable contract that pays him $14.4 million a year, which is a bargain considering his output. However, the 24-year-old forward is heading towards free agency after the 2020/21 season and is most likely to ask for a significant pay rise. If Suns don’t intend to give him one, maybe dealing with Golden State isn’t such a bad idea.

There is no doubt that the Warriors have the draft assets to make the deal happen while also holding a $17.2 million trade exception from last season’s Andre Iguodala trade. It only remains to be seen how high they are willing to go in order to get their man.
