]]>Garlic is a perfection addition from everything to sauteed vegetables to pizza, but most people don’t eat it raw. In order to make it easier to eat, make it into a paste in the mortar and pestle! The more you grind it, the creamier it becomes, making it less pungent but still aromatic. Add it into dressings or use it on freshly toasted bread and taste the difference.
Pesto was actually always made in a mortar and pestle until recently, and it’s worked very well for the Italians. Start by crushing the nuts you’re using and then add in the rest of the ingredients. You will find the paste to be probably even smoother than in a processor, and much more flavorful.

One of the biggest problems people have with garlic is all the peeling and chopping involved. But, you can have garlic whenever you want without having to pull out your cutting board every time. Simply peel a head of garlic, pop the cloves in a food processor with some olive oil, put in ice cube traces and you’re done! Seal in a plastic bag and use a cube of garlic whenever necessary.

Roasted garlic is great to add to dips, or simply spread on bread. Cut off the top of a head of garlic, drizzle olive oil over it, stick it in the oven, and once it’s done, the cloves can be squeezed out of the head. No peeling or fuss!

]]>Anna is an investigator for the beauty products market. She considers it her mission in life to determine what goes into cosmetics and to work out which ones are doing us harm.
She recently spent some time with the Editor-In-Chief of Chalkboard magazine, Suzanne Hall, to walk through her findings and to offer tips on taking better care of yourself.
Suzanne turned out to be a goldmine of information for Anna. She was happy to share a treasure trove of beauty industry inside secrets, but one thing in particular really blew Anna’s mind.
You need to skip ahead to the 2:30 mark, but there you’ll see Suzanne explaining to Anna that your body is incredibly sensitive to certain things and that if you rub garlic on your feet then you’ll be able to taste it within seconds.

There was no way that an investigative reporter was going to leave that claim untested so, Anna jumped right in “feet first.” She put the recording on hold, found some garlic and gave her feet a gentle rub with it and she reports that Suzanne is absolutely right!
We’d politely suggest that this is because garlic is particularly pungent and that the scent gives you the “taste” of things (because most of what we taste is actually smell not flavor) and not because garlic is carried through your skin via your bloodstream to your mouth.
But we’ll let you decide.
