While funnel cakes are typically only seen at the beach, carnival, and fairs you can make this sweet dessert at home with just a few ingredients in 15 minutes! Here’s how to make funnel cakes.

Ingredients:

  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup 2% milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • oil for deep-fat frying
  • confectioners’ sugar

I have a confession… I only go to the fair for the food. All that fried, yummy, not at all healthy for you goodness.. I can eat it all (except the donut burger — I can't get up the courage to try that one, though I've heard it's delicious). ⁣ ⁣ Aside from fried oreos, funnel cakes (also called fried dough) are at the very tippy top of my must-eat list. That powdered sugar covered, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside deliciousness is something dreams are made of. ⁣ ⁣ For years, I've been buying the boxed funnel cake mix. It's easy and most only require you to add water and stir. But recently, without a box available, and our funnel cake craving growing by the day, we decided to try to make them from scratch. Instructions:

  1. Beat eggs in a large bowl and add milk, vanilla, and water until mixed well.
  2. In another bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt and beat in the egg mixture.
  3. In a deep cast-iron or electric skillet, heat oil to 375 F.
  4. With your finger, cover the bottom of a funnel spout and ladle 1/2 cup batter into the funnel.
  5. Hold the funnel above the oil and release your finger while moving the funnel in a spiral motion until all the batter is in the skillet.
  6. Fry until golden brown, 2 minutes on each side. Drain with paper towels.
  7. Dust with confectioners’ sugar and serve warm.
