Wegmans isn’t just a grocery store—it’s an experience. This family-owned supermarket chain has built a devoted following across the East Coast, consistently ranking among the best grocery stores in the U.S. for its high-quality products, customer service, and unique shopping atmosphere. Now, Wegmans is expanding its reach with its first-ever Long Island location, opening in Lake Grove. But whether you’re near this new store or one of its many locations from New York to North Carolina, here’s why Wegmans is worth the trip.

Wegmans Expands: New Store in Lake Grove and Beyond

Wegmans’ new Lake Grove store, which opened on February 26, 2025, is the latest addition to its growing presence. Spanning 101,000 square feet, this location offers everything shoppers love about Wegmans, including fresh produce, gourmet cheeses, in-store dining, and exceptional customer service. It joins other recent expansions, such as stores in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina, showing that Wegmans’ reputation for quality continues to attract new customers wherever it opens.

What Makes Wegmans a Standout Grocery Store?

1. Fresh, High-Quality Products

From organic produce to top-tier meats and seafood, Wegmans prioritizes fresh, high-quality ingredients. Their private-label products often rival or surpass name brands, and they carry a diverse selection of international and specialty foods that cater to all tastes.

2. Unmatched Cheese Selection

Cheese lovers will find heaven in Wegmans’ specialty cheese department. With selections ranging from imported favorites to in-house cave-ripened varieties, the store offers one of the best assortments of gourmet cheeses you’ll find in a supermarket.

3. Restaurant-Quality Prepared Foods

Wegmans isn’t just for grocery shopping—it’s also a great place to grab a meal. Their prepared food section includes sushi, artisan pizza, fresh sandwiches, hot bar options, and even full restaurant-style meals in some locations. This makes it a go-to for busy shoppers who don’t want to sacrifice quality when grabbing something quick to eat.

4. A Customer Service Experience Like No Other

Wegmans has consistently been ranked among the best grocery stores for customer satisfaction, and it’s no surprise why. Employees are known for their friendliness, helpfulness, and extensive product knowledge, making the shopping experience enjoyable and stress-free.

5. Community Engagement and Career Growth

Beyond just being a great place to shop, Wegmans is also a top employer. It’s consistently ranked as one of the best companies to work for, thanks to competitive wages, benefits, and even a generous employee scholarship program. With every new store opening, including the Lake Grove location, Wegmans provides hundreds of jobs, strengthening local economies.

Why You Should Visit a Wegmans Near You

Whether you’re in Long Island, upstate New York, Massachusetts, or the Mid-Atlantic, Wegmans offers a grocery experience that’s hard to beat. With its focus on fresh food, excellent service, and an atmosphere that feels more like a gourmet market than a supermarket, it’s easy to see why so many shoppers are loyal fans. If you haven’t visited a Wegmans yet, now is the perfect time to see what all the excitement is about.

As Thanksgiving Day 2024 approaches on November 28, many shoppers are wondering which grocery stores will be open for last-minute needs. This year, several major retailers have announced closures to allow their employees to spend time with their families. Walmart, Costco, Sam’s Club, Publix, Target, Trader Joe’s, Aldi, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Rite Aid, Winn-Dixie, Stop and Shop, and Family Dollar are among the stores that will remain closed on Thanksgiving.

These Stores Will Be Closed

Walmart, for the fifth consecutive year, will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. Walmart tweeted in October 2023, “Thanksgiving is a special day, and we want our store associates to have the chance to spend it with their families and loved ones.” Similarly, Target has chosen to close its stores on Thanksgiving, allowing employees to spend time with their families.

Aldi will also be closed all day on Thanksgiving Day 2024. Trader Joe’s stores will not be open on Thanksgiving Day and will reopen on Black Friday, with hours of operation depending on each store.

Which Stores Will Remain Open?

While many stores are closing for the holiday, several grocery stores will remain open with modified hours to accommodate shoppers’ last-minute needs. Sprouts Farmers Market will be open on Thanksgiving from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., allowing customers to grab fresh vegetables or other organic products during these hours. Whole Foods stores will also be open on Thanksgiving with modified hours.

Kroger stores will remain open on Thanksgiving, but with adjusted hours. Kroger stores will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, though customers should check with their specific location for exact times. Harris Teeter will be open on Thanksgiving until 2:00 p.m.

In California, grocery stores like Raley’s, Safeway, WinCo, and Sprouts will be open on Thanksgiving, but may have shorter hours than usual. Customers are advised to call ahead to their local stores to confirm hours.

H-E-B stores will be open from 6 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Thanksgiving 2024. Additionally, curbside service at H-E-B will wrap up at 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Meijer stores will be open on Thanksgiving Day, but will operate with reduced hours, offering delivery and pickup services until 3:00 p.m.

Wegmans stores will be open on Thanksgiving Day with limited hours. Many locations will have different opening and closing times, and customers should check with their local store.

Albertsons stores will remain open on Thanksgiving, but opening and closing times may vary by location. Customers are encouraged to check around their area for details.

For last-minute shopping needs, Sprouts Farmers Market and Whole Foods are options for customers seeking fresh produce and other items. Newsweek notes that “vegetables often make or break the side dish options,” emphasizing the importance of having access to stores on Thanksgiving.

While some stores choose to open on Thanksgiving, others remain closed due to state laws. In Maine, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, most retail stores are required to close on Thanksgiving Day.

As always, customers should check with their local retailers for exact times and any adjustments due to the holiday. With varying store hours and closures, planning ahead is key to ensuring a successful Thanksgiving meal without any last-minute setbacks.

By being aware of which grocery stores are open and their specific hours, shoppers can better prepare for Thanksgiving Day. Whether it’s grabbing forgotten items or planning for fresh ingredients, knowing the availability of grocery stores can help make the holiday smoother and more enjoyable.

You might be surprised to find out that the average household American spends almost $8,000 each year on food, with almost $4,500 of it going towards groceries! At the supermarket, it’s easy to get distracted by deals or whatever catches your eye on the shelf, but impulse buys quickly add up and before you know it, most of your paycheck has gone towards groceries. These three tips will help you save money on food.

Compare Costs

Prior to going to the supermarket, look at local supermarket ads to see the prices they’re offering on the foods on your shopping list. Simply doing this research will save you money and the aggravation of traveling to supermarkets for the best prices. Also, look out for store brand products, which are almost always cheaper than name brand ones.

Skip Lines

Delivery services save you time having to travel to supermarkets and wait in long lines, but many of them have delivery fees. Look out for food delivery services that have free delivery or the option to pick up in-store. Try to limit meal delivery services and take out meals because they are not cost-effective.

Take Inventory

Check your pantries and freezer to see what items you already have in your kitchen. This will prevent you from buying things you already have and you can make meals around these foods.
