]]>Flying is a huge contributor to climate change, and it’s estimated that greenhouse gas emissions from air travel will continue to grow in the future. There are a few things we can do to reduce our carbon footprint, such as avoiding long-haul adventures for a while and traveling by train instead.
Swap your liquid for solid toiletries such as shampoo and conditioner bars, because they’re easier to fit into hand luggage and reduce unnecessary plastic waste. Also avoid using those toiletry bottles you get in hotel or hostel rooms, as they’re also a huge source of plastic waste.
We all know that wearing sunscreen is extremely important in order to protect our skin. But did you know that chemicals from sunscreens damage coral reefs and are extremely harmful to marine life? If you want to protect the oceans, make sure to swap these harmful for ocean-friendly sunscreens that don’t contain harmful ingredients such as oxybenzone and octinoxate.

]]>Trains are a really fantastic way to travel, especially if you’re in a new country. You not only get to bring as much luggage as you want onto the train with no security lines, but the route to your destination will likely be through beautiful countrysides with stunning scenery. But, train rides can be long, and if you want to make the most of it, it’s best to come prepared.
One of the amazing things about traveling on a train is that you can bring as many liquids as you like. Make sure you’re bringing enough water to last you your whole trip, which for a 12-hour trip is at least 2 liters. You probably won’t be able to refill your water bottle, so come prepared.
With trains, you never know if it’s going to be hot or cold, so make sure you dress in layers so you can be most comfortable with the climate. Also, bring a pillowcase with you and stuff your layers into it to make a makeshift pillow.
Even if your train doesn’t make many stops, make sure to get up and walk around as often as you can; step outside even for a few seconds and do some jumping jacks to keep your blood flowing.

]]>Although it is nice to get a flight where you have the whole row to yourself, it is actually better for the environment if the airplane is packed. This is because if more people are being transported it is more efficient to use the same amount of fuel. You can do this by taking a cheaper airline as more people will probably gravitate to the cheaper price.

A lot of airlines or other companies give you the option to plant trees in order to offset your carbon emissions. This is helpful because trees clean the air for us, and with so much deforestation happening, we need more trees now more than ever.

If you are on a plane, say no to single-use types of plastic, such as the cups and food ware that you might get offered.
