It’s all about the background noise. The effect of background noise is actually so powerful that it can help your brain see things from a new perspective by disrupting a mental rut.
Of course, the noise can’t be too loud. The right amount of it is, according to van der Groen, even better for working than complete silence.
So, the next time you feel like it’s not your day to be productive, try taking your work to the nearest Starbucks. The effect may surprise you, but now you know that all those people with laptops in coffee shops aren’t faking it!
