]]>Hot water has a drying effect on our nails, hair and skin. Shower in as cool water as you can handle, don’t leave your hands under the hot faucet for ages, and try to avoid soaking your hands in water as much as possible (always wear gloves when tackling the washing up).
If you’re tempted to start some spring cleaning, make sure you wear gloves when handling any household cleaning products and chemicals. Many of the traditional cleaners can weaken and even split nails, so gloves are a must, and if you can stick with homemade cleaners created from natural products such as lemon juice, vinegar and bicarbonate of soda.
If you’re constantly getting your gel manicure touched up or applying layers of polish at home, your nails will suffer. Just like our skin needs some sun exposure for vitamin D, it’s a good idea to let your nails ‘breathe’ every now and again so they can heal and strengthen. You can apply a clear strengthening polish, to boost their healing process during this time.
