]]>A growing number of apps such as Wolt and GrubHub are tailoring to customers ordering from home. As a result, there has been a push towards eco-friendliness in delivery materials as well. But what we all really care about is what new foods are hot. Here are some new food trends from this year.
No one had changed up the jerky industry until recently when biltong came onto the market. Biltong originates from South Africa and is very similar to jerky. However, while jerky is cooked in an oven, biltong is hung out to dry naturally in the air, resulting in it being much less smoky. It is now becoming known as a healthier alternative, often sought out by people on diets such as paleo.
Last year we saw fast-food giants vying for public favor as chains such as McDonald’s, Burger King, and Wendy’s rolled out Impossible Burgers and fought to offer consumers the healthiest fast food. This year, the battle is continuing on the breakfast playground. Classics like the McMuffin just don’t cut it anymore, and we are sure to see some tasty new options over the coming months.
Now that we all have plenty of candy from Halloween, we might as well put it to good use. Charcuterie plates are traditionally composed of cold meats, and perhaps the occasional cheese and cracker. However, a new trend is an imaginative charcuterie, composed of unconventional ingredients and displayed in delightful designs.

]]>The company that makes the hearts, The New England Confectionary Company (Necco), went out of business in 2018. In September 2018, Spangler Candy Co. bought the Sweetheart brand, but they didn’t have enough time to package the candies before Valentine’s Day in 2019.
Spangler previously announced that they were releasing the hearts in 2020, but until now we hadn’t heard anything from the company. Last week the spokeswoman for Spangler, Diana Moore Eschhofen, announced that the hearts would be back on shelves at drugstores nationwide.
“We’re beyond excited to bring Sweethearts back this year in limited quantities. It has been an adventure to get these favorite Valentine candies back in production. Even though we knew we wouldn’t be able to meet all the consumer demand for 2020, we committed to moving forward to avoid another year without Sweethearts on the store shelves,” Eschhofen said.
If you want to get a pack of these candies synonymous with Valentine’s Day, you’ll have to act quickly before the rush of the holiday. You may notice these candies taste a bit different than you’re used to because Spangler is using the original 118-year-old recipe which features flavors like banana and wintergreen.
