Pura Besakih, “Mother Temple”

Pura Besakih is the most important Hindu temple in Bali and it’s located in the village of Besakih on the slopes of Mount Agung. It’s actually a complex of 23 separate temples and it’s highly popular among tourists ever since it survived a devastating eruption of Mount Agung in 1963.

Tirta Empul

This is a sacred water temple, very important for Balinese people who come here to bathe in holy water and participate in the purification ritual. Legend has it that these sacred springs were created by the god Indra, but the temple was actually founded in 926 A.D. and is dedicated to Vishnu.

Pura Luhur Lempuyang

This is one of the oldest temples in Bali that lies at 1,175m above sea level, on Mount Lempuyang. To reach it, you have to climb a steep staircase of over 1,700 steps. During your climb, you can enjoy the beauty of several other temples along the way.
